Integrative Body Psychotherapy

Integrative Body Psychotherapy (IBP) identifies the somatic experience as the pathway to self-awareness and recognizes that the question of life itself is learned through somatic intelligence. In order for a client to gain insight into the self, the body must feel the experience in the core of the self. Psychologists believe that issues and problems develop when this physical compass--somatic intelligence--gets disturbed. The premise of Integrative Body Psychotherapy is that a person is better able to handle stressful situations when they are operating from a state of mindfulness or from their core self. This type of psychotherapy was developed by Dr. Jack Lee Rosenberg

What is Integrative Body Psychotherapy Like?

During Integrative Body Psychotherapy, a therapist identifies different situations and triggers that propel a client into an involuntary and reflexive response mode that results in the disruption and blockage of pathways to mindfulness. There are multiple psychological fields or arenas that work cohesively and individually within the client and can be triggered at varying times or simultaneously. These fields are responsible for creating blocks and obstacles that halt the journey to enlightenment. Integrative Body Psychotherapy employs experiential methods within the context of the therapeutic model to challenge and dissolve these obstacles. A client is taught how to recognize each psychological field and to understand what steps he or she must take to move away from them, allowing him or her to continue going deeper into his or her inner wisdom on the road to healing and wholeness. As new situations arise, this sense of self-awareness empowers the client to more positively and effectively handle the circumstances and obstacles that surround the event.

Results of IBP

IBP teaches a person how to rely on their core intelligence to overcome and address all of life’s issues as they come. The answer is not in the question itself, but in how a person internalizes the question and the circumstances surrounding it. A sense of well-being is achieved when people learn to use their somatic wisdom to face each and every question that presents itself.
