My Approach to Helping
As the only licensed psychologist in Kuwait for many years, I have without exception maintained the highest level of ethical standards. My practice procedures conform to the American Psychological Association's Code of Ethics. There are no psychology licensing requirements here, and hence no locally imposed ethical guidelines. Of course, this situation easily lends itself to fraudulent and abusive practices which violate the first tenet of all health practitioners, "do no harm". My expertise covers both ends of the spectrum, as I am trained in Jungian analytical psychology, including dream analysis; and trained in the Biodyne model of brief intermittent psychotherapy throughout the life-cycle. In most cases, I employ the cognitive behavioral approach for maximum treatment results within the shortest time frame. Psychological assessment is an important part of my treatment program. I utilize a treatment plan with short and long-term goals which incorporates assessment results. School-aged children's emotional problems are approached from a psychoeducational perspective. Learning problems are diagnosed and treated first which often reduces the need for long-term therapy. Likewise, substance abuse and dependency issues are treated before attempting to resolve the related issues of academic/work performance, family/marital problems, and rule violations.

More Info About My Practice
Since 1998, as the first Licensed Psychologist in the country, I have dedicated myself to the ethical practice of professional psychology in Kuwait. As the first Educational Psychologist in the private schools, I was responsible for the introduction of psychoeducational testing into the academic community, a fact which greatly contributed to the rapid development of the existing "market" for psychological assessment services. In response to a need for effective treatment for school children's issues, I went on to develop unique "brain-based" treatment programs designed to improve academic and social performance. My contributions to the practice of Professional Psychology include the initiation of Clinical Supervision and Continuing Education Programs for local psychologists, implemented through the Social Development Office and Kuwait University. Whether practicing in Kuwait, Switzerland, Florida or California I have without exception maintained the highest level of ethical standards. My practice procedures conform to the American Psychological Association's Code of Ethics. Clients are rightfully concerned about the issues of confidentiality and privacy when they come for psychological treatment. Many clients have had their confidentiality violated before coming to me. Confidentiality is an integral feature of the psychological services which I deliver. Client information is never divulged without written consent. Many local people deliberately seek me out rather than traveling abroad for treatment as they may have done in the past. Many local doctors, along with colleagues at the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States, choose to refer their patients to me. Similarly, American educational consultants, pleased to find a world-class practitioner locally available, refer their students to me rather than having them evaluated abroad. Over the years my reputation has grown in large part due to my Diagnostic Psychoeducational Assessment Program for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities and emotional problems. My comprehensive Test Report includes diagnoses, rationale, raw data, and recommendations for home and school. My signature "brain-based" Treatment Programs were first introduced in 2003. The Cognitive Retraining Program (CRP) and the Neurotech Training Program (NTP) improve academic performance and psychosocial functioning in children and adults. Numerous case studies have repeatedly demonstrated positive treatment outcomes, illustrating their effectiveness and reliability. Over the years, the quality delivery of psychological services has firmly established my reputation as a Professional Psychologist and earned the confidence of parents, teachers, counselors and administrators in schools and universities throughout the country.

My Guiding Ethical Principles

My practice procedures and guiding principles derive from the American Psychological Association's (APA)Code of Ethics for the practice of psychology. I have been a member of the APA since 1987. There are individuals who express allegiance to the ethical tenets of the APA as a marketing strategy but are not APA members. This is a new trend in Kuwait as it lends an aura of ethical credibility but the client is left with no recourse if the practitioner is not a member.

Theoretical Influences that Guide My Work

Jungian-oriented psychological principles and Abraham Maslow's "Hierarchy of Needs" form the basis and foundation of my theoretical thinking. Humanistic Psychology, Existentialism, Client-Centered Therapy, Actualizing Therapy, Symbolic Interactionism, Biodyne and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy provide the foundation for my practice.
