Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I feel I am very adept at Marriage Counseling because I have had over 16 years of experience in the area of Counseling. Most of my clients do remain married and go on to have healthier and better marraiges. I have done a lot of specialized counseling in the marriage arena; sepecially John Gottman, Imago, Family Systems Theory and Stategic Marriage Counseling. I do a lot of affair recovery. It is fulfilling to see clients graduate from Marriage Counseling with a healthier marriage and go on to live fulfilling lives. I love when a client will send me a message years later telling me they are doing well! I have been married for 30 years to my husband and feel I can bring a lot of personal experience to my counseling.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I feel my struggles and life experiences have made me a much better and compassionate therapist. I originally went into counseling because I was a child of abuse, alcoholism, multiple marriages and mental disorders. I felt this allowed me an empathetic perspective to human suffering and survival. After starting my counseling career I have experienced infertility, two adoptions (including a difficult foreign adoption), a difficult child who suffers from Attachment Disorder, a handicapped child, empty nest, midlife and breast cancer with reconstruction. I feel in all of the experiences my approach has been: What can I learn from these experiences that I can help others? Due to my experiences I am able to relate to a lot of what others's are struggling with and help them not only from a theoretical perspective but also a personal perspective. I am able to give them Hope in the process of counseling and recovery.
