My philosophy about the need for treatment stems from the sense that people develop "symptoms" as a way of adapting to the problems they face. I see therapy as a means of exchanging "symptoms" for "coping mechanisms" and believe the therapy relationship is central to achieving this goal. It has been my experience that people learn things about others and the world early in childhood and sometimes mistakenly apply these ideas to present day relationships and events. Examining what happens in the room between myself and a client often tells us useful things about how someone functions in other areas of his/her life. I specialize in working with men and women individually as well as teens and their families. I have particular interests in men's issues, teenagers, eating disorders and people recovering from difficult childhoods.
