The longer I've worked in the mental health field, the more I've come to appreciate that many of the struggles that leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or anxious are rooted in our very human desire for certainty, safety, and control. Our brains are wired to seek predictability. When life feels uncertain, painful, or outside of our control, it's natural to search for ways to regain a sense of security. Sometimes this shows up through perfectionism, overthinking, people-pleasing, rigidity, self-criticism, or trying to anticipate every possible outcome. While these strategies often develop for understandable reasons, and may have even helped us survive at one point, they can eventually become exhausting, isolating, and keep us from living fully in the present. At the foundation of my work is dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), not simply as a set of coping skills, but as a way of approaching life with greater mindfulness, flexibility, self-awareness, and acceptance. I am deeply passionate about teaching practical life skills that help people build emotional resilience while creating lives that feel meaningful and aligned with their values. At the same time, my work extends beyond skills alone. I view each person through a humanistic, trauma-informed, and existential lens, recognizing that our relationships, identities, lived experiences, and search for meaning all shape the ways we understand ourselves and navigate the world. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that you are more than a diagnosis or a collection of symptoms. Together, we'll explore the patterns that no longer serve you, develop greater self-understanding, and build the confidence to respond to life's challenges with intention rather than fear. Whether we're practicing mindfulness, exploring the impact of past experiences, strengthening relationships, or learning to tolerate uncertainty, my goal is to help you loosen the grip of overcontrol, cultivate self-compassion, and create a life that feels authentic, connected, and fulfilling. Healing isn't about becoming a different person. It's about reconnecting with the person you've always been beneath the fear, self-doubt, and protective strategies that once kept you safe. If you're ready to begin that journey, I'd be honored to walk alongside you.
I am a clinical psychologist with experience treating adolescents & adults, as well as training graduate-level clinical counselors. My specialty, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), is an empirically-supported short-term approach to treat anxiety, panic, phobias, obsessional thoughts, compulsive or unhealthy behaviors, depression, anger, and trauma. CBT strategies can also be useful in the domains of stress management, romantic relationship concerns, family conflict, parenting, self-improvement, goal-setting and performance enhancement. I was trained and mentored directly by Dr. Albert Ellis, the founding father of CBT (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy). For women seeking therapy, I have also focused on how to most effectively help women with challenges faced throughout the life span, such as: dating, marriage, divorce, emotional disturbance, gender role frustration, parenting, self-image, stress management, career satisfaction and development, leadership roles, and the elusive work-life balance. If you are struggling with any of these issues, I’m here to help! My therapeutic work is based on a collaborative approach and a healthy dose of warmth, acceptance, efficiency, hope, support, and humor. We will work together to set goals and help you develop the tools and strategies to make them a reality. Please contact me for a free phone consultation.
You may have tried therapy, medication, or both and still feel caught in familiar patterns. Living with depression, anxiety, trauma, or addiction can be exhausting, especially when previous treatment has not brought the relief you hoped for. I offer a compassionate, collaborative space to understand what is keeping you stuck and explore a more personalized path forward. I am Michael Glaz, a New York-licensed mental health counselor and founder of MG Counseling Group. I work with teens and adults, including people facing complex trauma, posttraumatic stress (PTSD), and treatment-resistant depression. Together, we look at your history, your goals, and what has or has not helped before. My approach integrates eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), internal family systems (IFS), psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and body-based methods. I also offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) when appropriate. Our work can help you understand persistent emotional and relationship patterns, process painful experiences, and develop practical ways to respond differently. We will shape the process together, with attention to your needs and pace. I offer individual and couples therapy in Manhattan and Woodmere, along with online sessions throughout New York. You are welcome to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to discuss what you are looking for and whether we would be a good fit.

Bridging the worlds of psychology and creativity, I provide compassionate and effective psychotherapy for you, utilizing special techniques of mindfulness and imagery developed over 40 years that connect you to your creative, spiritual self. Reducing anxiety and alleviating depression requires accurate identification of issues, seamlessly integrated with an analytic understanding, in order to find inner control of the root emotions that cause moods and behaviors. Understanding you fully, I will help you identify the forces creating conflict and help you resolve them and find peace. Are you struggling with anxiety or depression? You know something's wrong but don't know what it is...I can help....I have over 40 years of experience passionately helping people understand their emotions and thoughts, with tried and true techniques that have been proven successful! I provide psychotherapy for adults, children, and individuals with special needs, trauma, and autism (ASD), with a specialty working with children experiencing challenges to their mental health, such as adoption, divorce, and grief. My unique approach utilizes both verbal and creative imaging techniques. This combination is particularly effective with both adults and children of all ages struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, socialization, focus, and concentration. For children and individuals with ASD and any intellectual disability (ID), I help release pent-up frustrations while teaching the language of emotions, leading to self-control and self-regulation. This opens the door to modeling appropriate interpersonal communication skills, which can then be utilized in the larger environment of everyday life.

Therapy is more than talking about what’s wrong, it’s about understanding what you’ve been through, learning how to manage what you’re feeling, and developing the tools to create meaningful change. My approach integrates DBT, somatic-based therapy, EMDR techniques, and CBT to help you address the connection between your thoughts, emotions, body, and relationships. If you struggle with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, trauma, negative self-talk, difficulty setting boundaries, relationship challenges, or feeling stuck in unhealthy patterns, therapy can help you move forward. Through DBT, we work on practical skills for emotional regulation, mindfulness, distress tolerance, and healthier communication so you can respond to difficult situations instead of feeling controlled by your emotions. Through CBT, we identify the negative and unhelpful thought patterns that may contribute to anxiety, self-doubt, shame, or feeling stuck. You’ll learn how to challenge those thoughts and develop healthier, more balanced ways of thinking. With somatic-based therapy, we pay attention to how stress and past experiences show up in your body. Together, we work toward greater awareness, grounding, nervous-system regulation, and a stronger sense of safety within yourself. Using EMDR-informed techniques, we can gently address distressing experiences and emotional triggers while building coping resources and helping you develop a greater sense of control and emotional safety. You deserve a space where you can be understood, not judged. Therapy can help you move from simply surviving to creating a life that feels more balanced, connected, and fulfilling.
Are you feeling depressed, anxious, or frustrated with yourself? I help individuals understand why they fall into self-defeating patterns and then help them choose more empowering ways of living. It's not always easy for people to learn to like themselves better or to forgive themselves for their mistakes. As a formerly harsh self-critic, I know how to guide people to become happier and freer by using gentle humor and self-compassion to rediscover their fundamental self-worth. I want to help you and your relationships thrive. Has poor communication or betrayal turned your relationship with your loved one into a battlefield? I can teach you to communicate more effectively with each other and to rebuild shattered trust, so that both of you feel heard and respected. I can also help you resolve conflicts that arise from differences in financial, personal, and parenting styles. Do you feel a need to achieve more in your career or other life areas? I can enable you to reach your full potential by discovering new possibilities for growth and step by step strategies to meet your goals. Then, I can show you how to make consistent progress by making changes stick - even in tough times. I invite you to call to see how I can help.
