My approach in therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal oriented.
I work with people who are thoughtful and self-aware, but feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward. You might find yourself caught between who you are and who you feel you’re “supposed” to be—driven more by pressure or anxiety than by a clear sense of what actually feels right. In our work together, the focus is on helping you understand yourself more deeply while also creating meaningful change. Sessions are active and collaborative, often incorporating humor and metaphor, with a balance of insight and practical movement forward. I draw from relational cultural theory, narrative therapy, and solution-focused approaches, adapting to what feels most helpful for you. My work is trauma-informed and identity-affirming, and I approach your story with curiosity, care, and respect. As a cis, queer man from the evangelical South, I bring lived insight into how power, privilege, and systems shape identity and mental health. I’m mindful of how these dynamics can show up both in your life and in the therapy room. Over time, clients often feel more grounded in who they are, more confident in their choices, and better able to move through uncertainty without losing themselves. If you’re considering therapy, I offer a free consultation to talk through what you’re looking for and see if we’re a good fit.
I am a Certified Bioenergetic Therapist and have been in practice for more than thirty years. Bioenergetics is a mind/body therapy. I believe each of us is a unique individual - we need to be heard and deeply understood in our struggle to be ourselves and to move beyond the limitations our historical or current experiences impose on us. The Bioenergetic approach integrates verbal communication with active physical work - bodywork - which enhances the therapeutic process. I will help you to be more in touch with your feelings, more confident in your impulses, and provide you with tools to mobilize yourself toward what you most deeply desire. The therapeutic journey is profound and can lead us to places we often only dream about. Embodying ourselves leads us to stand independently in the world and allows us to know who we are and to relate to others from a more genuine, felt place. I look forward to hearing from you and exploring possibilities.

Psychotherapy Services For Individual Counseling, Family Counseling, Marriage Counseling, and Couples Counseling Here at Counseling Services Direct, the main goal of the practice is to offer a supportive and safe environment for individuals, families, and couples to become fulfilled in their relationships and life. The setting of the practice will help you build resources to fully realize your potential for acceptance, happiness, well-being, and growth. As a licensed and certified family therapist and a licensed marriage therapist the practice exists to inspire active participation and support the client with developing insight into the areas that are causing troubles, and empowering the behavioral transformations that are wanted. The therapy is place to open yourself to the possibilities of making constructive changes and working through the areas that are causing emotional distress and other problems. The counseling can help you begin to understand what is causing you to feel unhappy in your relationships and life and help you to narrow in on the areas you want to make changes. Once this is done, then the therapeutic objectives can be fulfilled and the client is assisted and provided with the resources to make changes in areas of their relationships and life that needs an improvement. As a result of the collaboration in therapy, you experience changes that have quick and long term effects on the health of your relationships and your personal well-being.
Many of my clients come to therapy for help with relationships, and are frustrated that they repeat patterns but don't have an alternative. I believe relationships are central to life and I also know that much of what we learn about how to relate comes from childhood. Often we've outgrown certain ways of interacting, but it can be hard to know what or how to do things differently. My approach to therapy is collaborative and leans heavily on curiosity. I don't see therapy as a place to "get fixed" but a place to explore, learn, and embrace who you are. In order to do things differently, we need to understand ourselves, and this requires an open, non-judgmental a mind. Of course it can feel difficult and even scary to learn about yourself or discover new things, so I will work at your pace and refer to you as the expert on your experiences. I have great respect for our ability to heal and grow if given the opportunity and a safe space to do so. I believe we are all capable of living a life that aligns with who we authentically are, not the person we created to make the world happy.

The relationship between psychotherapist and client is of utmost importance in my practice- feeling understood, accepted and not judged. With my extensive experience in the field both as a practitioner and a teacher, having a foundation of knowledge of human psychological development and unconscious processes is requisite to being able to listen to and understand what people are expressing, both within their awareness and what may not be accessible to them without professional help. I work with each person based on what their individual needs are.
I am currently taking new patients who are experiencing problems with work, school and/or relationships that are due to obsessive and problematic usage of internet/computer/video games. Depression and anxiety are often associated with excessive use of these interactive technologies. Within the past seven years, I have seen a significant rise in my practice in people who have experienced major difficulties that have been rooted in spending too much time online, or excessively involved in one or more forms of interactive technology (i.e., computer/video games). For some, it has to do with excessive internet surfing. For others, it may involve multi-user online games (e.g., World of Warcraft, Call of Duty). A growing number of people have reported spending ("wasting") hours upon hours on blogs, watching Youtube vidoes, and on Facebook, Tumblr, and other social networking sites.
