My goal is to provide counseling, psychotherapy and treatment for individuals, couples and families struggling with a variety of psychological and mental health issues including stress, relationships, marital problems, depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol, eating disorders, learning disability attention problems etc... As the Coordinator of Campus Alcohol and Substance Awareness at Temple University and as the past Assistant Director of Student Health and Counseling at The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia I have a lot of experience working with clients facing all the above issues and more. I believe that counseling is a collaborative process where clients sort out their thoughts and feelings in order to get a better understanding of who they are. My approach is eclectic or integrative but I use many psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral approaches in my work. I trust that clients know deep down what should be talked about in therapy and that they mostly need help knowing how to access these thoughts and feelings in order to realize what it is they want and need from others and their lives. I am very open to sharing my personal thoughts and experiences as a way of helping others. I find that it often helps patients to know that their therapist is a human being too and much can be learned from the relationship of therapy. Many clients come to a therapists office because they struggling in their relationships. Paying attention to how your relationship develops with your therapist can help you understand how the really important relationships in your life outside of the therapeutic relationship work.
Safety and trust are the cornerstones of psychotherapy. Helping people to live richer, fuller and more satisfying lives can occur when you feel safe, never judged and accepted for both who and how you are. Together we will work on the issues that you wish to focus on, and you can live a fuller, richer life, in all dimension - personal, professional, relational.
Through the use of evidenced-based, client-centered therapies, I help people live with mental health issues and over time reimagine these divergences as features, not flaws. I specialize in the treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Please feel free to reach out any time. I look forward to connecting with you.
Are you seeking better relationships, greater career success, or relief from emotional distress? I will work with you to overcome the obstacles to living the life you want. Understanding yourself and others in new ways can increase your ability to relate to people authentically and experience love. Reconsidering recurring patterns that once seemed inevitable or uncontrollable can help you eliminate self-defeating behaviors and discover new choices and options. Acquiring the psychological skills to direct your life more effectively can lead to making lasting changes. Developing your emotional intelligence can promote greater resilience, humor, and capacity for pleasure. In therapy you can clarify your goals and develop the self-confidence and interpersonal skills to attain them, learn to build strong relationships, motivate yourself to achieve professional and financial success, and learn to cope effectively with challenges. The aim is to live more consciously and experience greater satisfaction in life. I provide therapy in a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can feel comfortable expressing yourself openly. I have practiced for over 20 years, and also teach and supervise other therapists. I work with each person as an individual and tailor my treatment approach to your unique needs.
I use an insightful and personalized approach to help clients identify barriers to happiness and gain a better understanding of their emotions and experiences. Knowing yourself deeply is an essential ingredient in creating the life you want, and this type of emotional learning ideally occurs within the context of a non-judgmental therapeutic relationship. My goal is to help clients explore behavioral patterns and achieve psychological well-being. My approach focuses on helping clients with a range of issues such as grief, depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict, and anger management. I provide clients with the emotional self-regulation tools, coping and communication skills, mindfulness techniques, and self-management strategies needed to cultivate change.
Most clients tell me they feel comfortable with me almost immediately, often within the first phone call. I don’t rush you or sit behind emotional distance. I show up as a real person, warm, steady, curious, and without judgment, so you can finally stop carrying everything alone. My approach is conversational and grounded in real life. I help you slow your thoughts enough to separate fear from reality, soften the self-criticism that’s been running the show, and understand the experiences that shaped you. I gently challenge the patterns that keep you anxious or overwhelmed, but always in a way that feels supportive rather than intrusive. People often say therapy with me feels surprisingly natural, like speaking with someone who truly gets them.
I commend you on taking the first step, but anxiety, depression, feeling lost and out of control are not states you need to endure. I am passionate about helping others build tools and develop the skills they need to find relief and gain the confidence to navigate through life's rough times. Using evidence-based therapeutic approaches, the goal is to achieve empowerment to work through any current issues while gaining the ability to handle future ones. It is not about controlling the waves, it's about learning to surf them.
You may be looking for help because your teenager or young adult feels overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, emotionally reactive, withdrawn, or uncertain about how to move forward. School stress, ADHD, changing relationships, greater independence, family tension, or the transition to college and adulthood may be affecting daily life. As a parent, you may also be unsure how to remain supportive without taking over. At Psychological Services of New York, my clinical team and I work with teenagers, college students, young adults, parents, and families throughout Westchester. My approach is practical, collaborative, and individualized. I take the time to understand the whole person and how emotional concerns, relationships, family dynamics, school, work, and developmental changes may be influencing one another. Therapy should not feel rigid or scripted. I use an integrative approach that draws from cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, humanistic and person-centered care, behavioral strategies, and lifestyle-based interventions. This allows treatment to be tailored to your needs, strengths, goals, and stage of life rather than forcing one method onto every client. Our work may involve understanding patterns, developing practical coping skills, strengthening relationships, improving emotional regulation, and building greater confidence and direction. When appropriate, I also work with parents to help them better understand what their child is experiencing and find a healthier balance between support and independence. Whether the concern involves anxiety, ADHD, depression, school or college stress, emotional regulation, relationship difficulties, parenting concerns, family conflict, or another important life transition, the goal is to make sense of what is happening and develop realistic steps toward meaningful change.
Deciding to enter psychotherapy is one of the most compassionate choices you can make for yourself. In fact, it can represent an essential turning point in your life. However, it can also sometimes feel uncomfortable to talk to someone you don't know well. That's why I provide a caring, safe environment where I will listen to you carefully and where we will work together to understand and resolve the issues with which you are struggling--both in terms of how they affect your life now and in terms of how they became issues for you in the first place. I work with adults and adolescents who are struggling with a wide range of concerns, including relationship difficulties, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, loss, low self-esteem, and many more. When you enter my office, we will talk together about what you are having difficulty with and where you are feeling stuck. I strongly believe that therapy should be an interactive process, where we work together as a team. I received my bachelor's degree in psychology from Yale University and my master's degree in clinical social work from New York University. My theoretical approach is eclectic, but grounded in a psychodynamic approach to therapy, which means that we will work to establish benefits that not only help you right now, but can also stand the test of time. I look forward to hearing from you!
