I love working with individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds. I have a warm and direct approach, and I work with couples to communicate and hear each other in a safe and productive way. I use IMAGO therapy/Imago Relationship Therapy (IRT), which most couples find very positive and quickly gives hope. With my individual clients, we work to understand your needs and desires and ways to help you find your inner strengths to achieve them. I also bring in some coaching tools when helpful. I respect and highly value the client-therapist relationship.
Adult and Adolescent Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Hello, and nice to meet you! I have been in healthcare as a bachelor’s degree registered nurse since 2010, and I have worked across many different healthcare settings in New York and Texas. I am a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), specializing in psychiatry. I received my Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University in 2022. After graduating, I worked at a psychiatric emergency room (ER) in Dallas, Texas, before transitioning to outpatient services. In addition to my professional experience, I have pursued complementary and alternative therapeutic modalities for my personal health. My interests include yoga, meditation, and kickboxing. I provide mental health treatment services to children, adolescents, adults, and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who want to break out of unhelpful patterns affecting their lives, in order to awaken unrealized vitality, potential, and creativity. I prescribe psychiatric medications with a holistic perspective, as needed. I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Nursing because I am committed to patient care and professional development. Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or constantly on edge—and not sure how to change it? You’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. At Perspectives Counseling of Long Island, we specialize in helping adolescents and adults who are struggling with anxiety, stress, emotional overwhelm, and relationship challenges. Many of our clients come to us feeling frustrated with themselves—wanting to feel better, communicate better, and show up differently in their lives, but not knowing how to get there. Our practice was founded by Abby Leefer, LCSW-R, an experienced clinician with decades of work supporting individuals, couples, and families. Abby built PCLI on the belief that therapy should never be one-size-fits-all. Every person brings a unique story, and your therapy should reflect that. Our team takes a warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth approach. We actively help you understand what’s going on beneath the surface and give you tools you can actually use in your everyday life. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, life transitions, low self-esteem, or difficulties at home or in relationships, we meet you where you are and help you move forward. We draw from evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and family systems work, but more importantly, we tailor everything to you—your goals, your personality, and what actually works in your life. Above all, we are committed to creating a space where you feel comfortable being honest—without fear of judgment. Therapy should feel like a place where you can exhale, gain clarity, and start making real, meaningful changes. If you’re ready to feel more in control, more confident, and more like yourself again, we’re here to help.
I provide practical tools and guidance to help you understand the brilliance of your nervous system and the wisdom it holds. By creating a space rooted in fierce compassion, curiosity, accountability, and even a little humor. Together, we'll work to gently shift the stories, beliefs, and habits that no longer serve you—whether from your personal experience, your lineage, or from the collective. Our work is a holistic partnership where we honor every part of your experience: • Mind: We’ll explore how your thoughts shape your world, influence your feelings and behaviors, and build strategies to shift your mindset. • Body: Moving beyond just ‘talking,’ we will also listen to what your body is telling you, practicing real-time techniques in session to help you manage emotions and find a sense of safety to help you have a different relationship with fear and pain. Ultimately, we will work on rewiring your brain for more calm and resilience. • Soul: To support your deepest self, we explore how a connection to the natural world can foster a profound sense of belonging. We can also integrate the power of ritual—creating intentional, meaningful practices that call our attention to mark what is. These practices help you truly connect with yourself, honor your transitions, and release the old as you ground into a new way of being. Throughout our time together, we will regularly track and measure the impact of our work. This ensures we are making a tangible, positive difference in your symptoms and moving you steadily toward the goals that matter most to you. If this resonates with you and you’re interested in the possibility of working together, please message me to schedule a consultation call. I currently offer in-person psychotherapy in Westchester, offer telehealth sessions to clients living anywhere in New York State and New Jersey, and offer life coaching nationwide.
