My approach in therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal oriented.
It’s not always easy to create a life that feels aligned with who you are. You might find yourself feeling disconnected, uncertain, or questioning your choices, wondering why things don’t feel as fulfilling as you expected. These experiences can be difficult, but they can also be important starting points for deeper understanding. Therapy offers a space to slow down and explore these questions with care. Together, we’ll look at patterns in your emotional life and relationships, explore how past experiences may be shaping the present, and reconnect with what feels most meaningful to you. My approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and insight-oriented. Sessions are reflective and focused on helping you better understand yourself over time, with space to process emotions and gain clarity. I often work with individuals navigating life transitions, relationship concerns, and a general sense of feeling unfulfilled or “off.” Over time, clients often feel more connected to themselves, more clear about what matters, and more able to move forward with intention. If you’re considering therapy, you’re welcome to reach out for a free consultation to see if this feels like a good fit.
You look like you’re handling it. Inside, your mind is running tabs you can’t close. You’ve probably spent a long time trying to figure things out on your own. Maybe you’re overthinking, second-guessing yourself, or holding yourself to impossible standards, managing fine on the outside while exhausted by the effort it takes. Therapy with me isn’t about sitting in silence while you do all the talking. Most of my clients arrive saying some version of the same thing: “I know what I should do. I just can’t seem to do it.” That gap, between understanding your patterns and actually changing them, is exactly where my work lives. Together, we’ll explore why certain patterns keep showing up, where they came from, and what to do differently. We’ll pair insight with practical strategies so you can spend less time stuck in your head and more time trusting yourself and your decisions. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York, and I work with adults navigating attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. My style is warm, direct, and collaborative. I’ll challenge you when it helps and support you when you need it, but therapy with me will always feel like a conversation, not a lecture or a checklist.
In high-stakes environments getting over it is not a strategy, it is a liability. True resilience is not found in suppressing stress, but in mastering the nervous system that governs your decision-making, creativity, and presence. While traditional talk therapy addresses the mind, complex stress and burnout are physiological. They reside in the nervous system, areas often inaccessible to logic and conversation alone. I provide a sophisticated, integrative approach for individuals who require more than just a sounding board. I integrate Somatic Experiencing with Creative Arts Therapy to bridge the gap between cognitive insight and physical regulation. We move beyond survival mode and into a state of expanded capacity. This is not about fixing what is broken; it is about optimizing your internal architecture for connection, resilience, and sustained ease. Core Areas of Expertise Executive Burnout & Nervous System Regulation: Rewiring a system stuck in high-cortisol fight or flight to restore mental clarity and physical vitality. Relational Intelligence & Boundaries: Navigating complex interpersonal dynamics and attachment patterns to enhance both professional and private leadership. High-Stakes Transitions: Maintaining an internal home and sense of self during significant career pivots, identity shifts, or personal loss. Complex Trauma Resolution: Utilizing a paced, somatic approach to process deep-seated wounds without compromising your daily functioning. Our work is collaborative, discreet, and highly specialized. Whether we are utilizing movement to release chronic tension or creative visualization to solve unspoken blocks, the process is tailored to your specific pace and lifestyle. We do not just discuss your narrative; we transform the physical experience of your life.
Feeling stuck and overwhelmed? It’s hard to be fully prepared for all of the challenges life throws at us. You don’t have to face it alone. Whether you’re struggling with emotional difficulties or other real-life obstacles, therapy can give you a space to pause, breathe, and reflect on what matters most to you. Together, we’ll work through the patterns holding you back, build practical tools for coping and growth, and help you move toward a life that feels more grounded, meaningful, and fulfilling. Over the past twenty years as a therapist, I have worked with individuals facing a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, addiction, relationship and workplace difficulties, illness, grief, and major life transitions. I focus on the present to help clients build awareness and engage with themselves more authentically. My goal is to help you reconnect with your spontaneous self and move beyond the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. This also means taking ownership of your choices, feelings, and actions. Together, we’ll explore new perspectives, strengthen self-awareness, and develop practical tools that support lasting change.
Health and wellness are not linear and will only evolve within a dynamic and complex interplay of the many systems in our lives. I firmly believe that promoting mental health is a part of this interplay. I help my clients with exploring those systems relevant to their mental health (such as relationships, lifestyle routines with sleep and eating, problem-solving, etc.), and developing strategies and routines to promote a robust everyday experience. My approach is holistic and integrative in nature; I believe that for the mind to be healthy, the body, mind, and spiritual needs of the person need to be in alignment. The mind includes our thoughts, feelings, and actions, while the body represents how those, coupled with lifestyle and nutrition routines, manifest physically. While our spiritual experience can differ widely, it is, at its root, the connection we experience to the world we live in. This can include, but is not limited to, our personal and intimate relationships with other humans, with nature and the earth we live on, with the food we eat, with the values we set, the routines we engage in to fulfill those values, andor with a religious deity. We will work on promoting your mental “Wellth;” we can only consider ourselves wealthy when our whole being is supported and living in abundance, not just our financials.
You may be entering a new stage in your life, whether it is heading to college and moving out of your childhood home, starting your career, choosing to seek graduate or advanced training, or becoming serious in a committed relationship and starting your own family. You know what you want to achieve, but need additional support in navigating the stresses of setting off on this new path. Or maybe you want help in redefining the roles your family members and loved ones have in your life as you walk towards adulthood in a chaotic world. Maybe you have started your own family and made the decision to become a parent. You may want to parent differently than your parents, but are unsure how. You might be experiencing anxiety around being responsible for a vulnerable new human being. Children can be mirrors, reflecting our own experiences of childhood back onto us. Perhaps past painful experiences of not having your own needs met in childhood are bubbling up and you want to have a safe space to process and explore those experiences. Perhaps you are noticing that your child is experiencing challenges. They may have learning or attentional difficulties, are struggling to navigate difficult life transitions, or are acting out and appear to be overwhelmed with big emotions they don't know how to manage. Whatever issue is bringing either you or your child to therapy, I believe you also bring with your own unique strengths and abilities. My approach as a therapist is to first focus on developing a relationship built upon mutual respect that allows you to feel safe, supported, and heard. In sessions, my goal is to empower you to take the lead and choose the direction therapy will take. Therapy is a place where you can explore both your strengths and challenges, ask questions, and take risks. My therapy approach is client-centered, trauma informed, and strengths based. Most importantly, my approach is tailored to your unique strengths, needs, and goals.
Welcome! I work with clients who struggle with the psychological, emotional, and physical consequences of past and or ongoing trauma, as they try to avoid repeating personal and professional mistakes that only worsen their experiences. If these challenges sound familiar, I can help you process your trauma in a supportive, validating environment, that is empowering and ultimately freeing.
I work with clients to create an environment that feels supportive, helpful, and safe. I tailor the therapy experience to each person. Sessions can be whatever you need them to be in that moment. There's no "right" way to do therapy! I treat clients holistically, as I believe that physical, mental, and social health are all connected.
Many people come to therapy because they feel "stuck". You may not believe it right now, but you are the expert on your life. Therapy is one way to help you navigate toward your personal sense of freedom. Everyone must struggle through ups and downs, but when your thoughts or emotions begin to stand in your way, then it may feel like you will always be ruled by your feelings. My job is to help you find out how your thoughts and emotional life can serve you and help you find motivation to change what doesn't work for you and then... go out and live your life! I try to help my clients through strength-based therapy that can be exploratory (long-term) or solution focused (short-term). Contact me to find out more.
At Keene Murray Therapy, our approach to helping people is: Creative. Our work is shaped both by our immersion in creative arts and by our extensive background in a variety of psychological approaches. Respectful. We recognize that our clients are the only ones who can truly tell their story. Our function is to help clients identify and achieve their goals. Non-pathologizing. We believe that most problems are simply former solutions that no longer work. We help clients discover more adaptive means to meet life's challenges. Collaborative. We value the interpersonal quality of a therapeutic relationship that acknowledges the effects and influences that both client and therapist contribute. Depth-oriented. Experience has shown us that significant change has its roots in the multi-layered interconnectedness of a person's inner life. We accompany clients as they explore and learn to navigate this strange and exciting territory.
Clients seek my guidance and support for various reasons, but ultimately it comes down to: They want to feel better. This is where I step on board, you no longer walk the walk alone. We figure out what exactly it means to feel better and then how to get there. What is missing that you think will create more happiness? What is currently happening that is impeding you, sinking you, creating an obstacle to lightness or fulfillment? I will ask you thought-provoking questions, offer alternative perspectives (I often hear, "Hmm, I never thought about it that way"), and invest in you, as a person, and the realization of your happiness.
