My Approach to Helping

My approach to therapy resembles that of a fireside chat, where there is a true back and forth dialogue and a sharing of the wisdom and knowledge that I have accumulated over the course of many years working in the field. Therapy is such an empowering experience in finding your truth because I believe that you already have the answers inside of yourself. My approach in working with each client is that I customize your therapy to fit your desired goals. If you are struggling to break free from toxic relationships whether it is stemming from work, family, or friends, I absolutely have the skill set to support you on your path. I think fear and old beliefs block us from embarking on a new journey. It is repeated lies negative self talk that inhibits us from moving forward out of our stuck place in life. I believe change occurs when we become "sick and tired of being sick and tired." Being at a crossroad is a good thing because you may be ready for change. My experience as a therapist will bring you to the change you seek in your life. If you choose to work with me, you will feel absolutely validated, challenged, nurtured, educated, and respected. I want to lead you to your personal power where you will find true meaning in your life.
I would like to share some client reviews to provide you a flavor of how my clients feel about their work with me.
Nancy is extremely caring, thoughtful and a great listener. During a very dark period in my life, Nancy helped guide me through a very emotional and challenging time. Our communication was two ways with active listening and finding solutions in a proactive approach. I worked with Nancy in both private therapy and in group therapy with a variety of different age groups and many challenges. Nancy always provided a positive and resourceful response to all of our challenges in a very respectful way. I cannot thank Nancy enough for what she did for me personally.
Nancy is an incredible person and I am so thankfully that I found her to be my therapist! I've noticed a huge change in myself since I begun my weekly sessions with Nancy. I cannot recommend her enough!
Nancy is a kind, compassionate professional that has supported and counseled me through significant life events. She is non-judgmental and has helped me find hope and openness to a new beginning. Nancy provides a safe environment to share and provides perspective while also offering real life skills that I implemented to achieve, overcome and find balance.
Nancy has truly helped me to see a different side of myself and wants to see me succeed. Although it is challenging to reach out for help, please do so. You shouldn't have to go through whatever you are going through alone. You deserve a better life. Nancy can't do the work for you, but she is going to make sure you are doing the work and don't give up on yourself.
I have over 20+ years experience as a psychotherapist. It will be my honor and pleasure to work with you. Thank you for selecting me as your therapist on your journey.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have worked in the field of addictions for 20 years. Initially in my career I was a National Certified Recreation Therapist. I am very skilled at developing leisure lifestyle plans to support people in knowing how to structure their free time. Boredom is a huge factor in our lives which translates into not knowing how to cope with idle time. People that are struggling with addiction or in early stage of recovery are faced with the threat of unstructured free time. I take a holistic approach in teaching clients how to create meaningful activities to enrich their lives. I am not referring to just physical activity. It is important to develop a structure that includes emotional, intellectual, spiritual, money management, stress management as part of developing a healthy self. In addition, I am very competent in working with people that struggle with co dependency. Those individuals that are lost in terms of having a true sense of self. I am very capable of supporting people in learning how to focus on themselves so that they recapture a sense of boundaries, self respect, and self regard. I am extremely skilled at developing a trusting relationship with my clients. You will feel understood, heard, and there is no judgement from me no matter what you bring into therapy as an issue. The relationship that I share with clients is so special. I continue to educate myself with reading psychology books from psychiatrist and psychologist that have tremendous impact in the field of psychology. These authors that teach me how to be a skilled clinician are; Karen Horney, Carl Jung, Viktor Frankl, Irvin Yalom, and Jordon Peterson to name a few. I take a humanistic and existential approach in therapy.
