I believe that emotional well-being depends on three components; insight into our own patterns, compassion for our own pain, and a strong sense of our unique, authentic contribution to the world. Too often, people go through life thinking and acting in ways that don't align with their own best interests and true nature. They are unable to understand why they behave as they do, or how to change their behaviors. We tend to be either strangers or enemies to our own selves, instead of being our own advocates and friends. My goal in psychotherapy is to help each person I treat develop a strong inner ally. Utilizing a variety of techniques which draw from both depth-oriented and symptom-focused models of psychotherapy, I am able to help my patients achieve rapid relief of their distressing symptoms as well as lasting change of chronic suffering. In my work with couples, I help people develop greater intimacy, overcome poor communication habits, and work through the impasses that have kept them stuck. I combine my sound clinical training with warmth, humor, and deep respect for the individual. I also offer interpersonal group psychotherapy for women, couples' group therapy, and workshops in Positive Psychology, Self-Compassion, and Mindfulness.
