What's My Approach to Therapy?
I believe that many symptoms are adaptations intended to relieve pain, and which in the past may have been the only options available. My practice focuses on helping people to examine whether these adaptations are still helpful, and to develop different ways of coping, through both acceptance and change in terms of beliefs, behavior, and relationship patterns.
My approach is collaborative and tailors evidence-based interventions to each individual client. I provide psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive processing therapy, exposure and response prevention, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and internal family systems therapy.
I also conduct psychodiagnostic, personality, and attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD) assessments, and assessments for trans clients seeking gender-affirming medical interventions. In addition, I supervise the work of trainees in clinical psychology and other mental health disciplines. My practice is 2SLGBTQ+ affirming, and I am attuned to the impact of oppression on psychological health.
