My Approach to Therapy

The argument may be about sex, affection, or who does more. Underneath, you may be asking: Do I matter to you? Can I trust you? Will we ever feel close again? If conversations keep turning into criticism, defensiveness, or silence, I can help you understand the pattern and practice a different way of connecting. I am Kietha Adams, MS, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), ABS, founder of Heart of Mind Therapy, PLLC, serving The Woodlands, Spring, Tomball, and North Houston. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and American Board of Sexology Certified Sexologist, I bring a relationship-centered perspective to couples therapy, marriage counseling, and sex therapy. My clinical focus is where emotional connection and sexual intimacy meet. We can explore both the conversations that leave you feeling alone and the concerns that feel hardest to name: mismatched desire, sexual shame, fear of rejection, or the impact of betrayal. You do not have to choose between discussing your relationship and discussing your sex life. Both can have a place in our work. My style is compassionate, engaged, and direct. I will help you slow down recurring conflict, recognize the hurt and attachment needs beneath your reactions, and practice expressing yourself more clearly. Drawing on Gottman-informed work, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and collaborative approaches, we will connect understanding with practical steps that fit your goals. That may include asking for closeness without blame, setting boundaries, repairing after conflict, or talking about desire without pressure. You can come as a couple or on your own. Individual therapy offers space to address anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, and patterns that affect how you relate to yourself and others. I welcome LGBTQ+ clients and diverse relationship structures, including consensual nonmonogamy, with respect for your identity and values. In-person sessions are available at my Shenandoah office near The Woodlands, with telehealth for clients located in Texas, Florida, Connecticut, and Georgia. Use Book Now to request an appointment or message me to ask about fit, availability, and fees. You do not need to have the right words before reaching out. Start reconnecting today.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Knowing why you argue is a beginning. Therapy gives you space to practice what to do differently when emotions rise. Together, we can notice the cycle, understand what each response is protecting, and build more useful ways to communicate. For couples, this may mean asking for closeness without criticism, listening without immediately defending, repairing after conflict, or talking openly about desire and trust. Premarital work can help you discuss expectations, boundaries, intimacy, and the patterns you want to build together. For individuals, therapy may focus on emotional regulation, self-worth, boundaries, and how earlier relationships influence the choices you make today. Sex therapy creates room to explore sexual concerns without shame or pressure. We will begin by understanding your concerns and goals, choose practical steps together, and check in about what is helping. You can move at a pace that respects your comfort and readiness.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

You may be wondering whether your concerns are serious enough, whether your partner will feel blamed, or how you could possibly talk about sex with someone new. Those questions are welcome here. You can begin by telling me what feels difficult and what you hope could change. We will discuss your goals and what working together might involve. In couples work, I seek to understand each perspective and the pattern between you. In sex therapy, you decide what you are ready to discuss; the work is conversation-based, with no sexual contact in sessions. Use Book Now to send an appointment request, or message me to ask about an initial consultation. You can explore the fit before deciding on next steps.
