My Approach to Therapy

Emotions are perfectly normal! The difference between feeling depressed or anxious comes from our interpretation of these very emotions. I work with adults, children and adolescents for couples or individual counseling. I appreciate working with young people by assisting them in understanding their emotions and what they mean. There are various therapeutic modalities I utilize, including art therapy, as a way to connect behaviors to feelings and sports metaphors for visualizing change. Using this process, my clients increase self-esteem and self-control. My goal is to uncover the strengths individuals possess even if the present life circumstances may feel overpowering. My approach with my clients is Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. So what exactly does this mean? Simply put, our thoughts affect the emotions we experience every day. These particular thoughts reflect individual beliefs we have about society, relationships, career, love, family and general self-image. This process affects and motivates our behaviors. In our modern world, children grow up in a culture that is alien to most adults. My interventions help to create and facilitate effective communication methods so that this particular cultural divide is lessened between child and parent. I can truly teach you how. You and your child will be better off for it.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I am in the fortunate position of helping people live their best lives by creating a safe, supportive environment. It's through this trust building relationship that lives get transformed. I am merely a conduit that helps facilitate change, growth, self control and improved self-esteem. There is no greater reward for a therapist than when an individual finds emotional clarity, balance and truth in their life journey.

What I Usually Need to Know to Help

I like to see myself as a detective of sorts. The first step is to conduct a Lifestyle Assessment in order to thoroughly understand the individual's life story. Through collecting this data I am able to more clearly see the client's historical background and what led to the current emotional disturbance.
