My Approach to Therapy

“I’m not good enough.” “I’m a failure.” “I should have known better.” “I’m not safe.” Do these sound familiar? They’re often accompanied by a knot in the stomach or a tightness in the chest. In eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), we call these “negative cognitions.” My clients have often tried to change these beliefs on their own without success. They know they’re not failures, but they can’t shake the feeling, until they try EMDR. You may think of EMDR as a trauma treatment, but trauma doesn’t have to involve violence to impact you. It could be the cruel words of a bully, an ex, or an unkind boss that linger in your psyche and hold you back when you want to feel better. EMDR is scientifically proven to reduce the distress tied to disturbing memories. EMDR benefits individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, and stress-related challenges linked to adverse life experiences. In plain English, you’ll be able to think of the memory without getting upset, and shed the negative beliefs associated with it. If you’d like to schedule a session, go to the link below to set up a profile: https://care.headway.co/providers/jessica-roberts?utm_source=pem&utm_medium=direct_link&utm_campaign=49665 Then you can schedule directly on my calendar. Any questions can be sent by email at jessicarobertslpc@proton.me. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and I don’t do phone consultations, since the best way to get a feel for each other is to meet for a one-hour session.

My Practice & Services

I offer telehealth appointments only. My typical availability is Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., but if you need a different day or time, please reach out, and I’ll see what I can do.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

You might be beating yourself up for being anxious when you intellectually know that you are safe. But we were designed as humans to be aware of danger so that we could survive in hazardous environments (think saber-toothed tigers). Anxiety comes when we can't stop looking for danger. EMDR helps turn that switch off so that you can truly feel safe and relaxed again!
