My Approach to Therapy
I specialize in helping individuals overcome gambling problems, alcohol use, substance use, and the emotional challenges that often accompany them, including anxiety, depression, stress, shame, and relationship difficulties. My approach to therapy is practical, supportive, and focused on helping you create meaningful and lasting change. Drawing from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and relapse prevention, I help clients understand the patterns that keep them stuck, strengthen their motivation for change, and develop healthier ways of coping with life's challenges.
I believe that for therapy to be effective, people often need to work through the obstacles that are preventing them from moving forward. In my experience, these barriers are frequently rooted in fear, shame, or pride. Whether it is fear of change, shame about past mistakes, or pride that makes it difficult to ask for help or be vulnerable, these obstacles can keep people trapped in unhealthy cycles. My goal is to work collaboratively with you to identify what is holding you back and help you develop the strength, confidence, and willingness to do the things that may feel difficult or uncomfortable. Recovery and personal growth often require stepping outside of your comfort zone, but you do not have to do it alone. I provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you can gain insight, build practical skills, and take meaningful action toward a healthier, more fulfilling, and purpose-driven life.
My Practice & Services
I maintain an office in Nyack, NY, located in Rockland County, where I am available to meet with clients in person. I also offer secure telehealth sessions for clients who prefer the convenience of meeting virtually. While I am not currently in-network with insurance plans, I do accept clients who have out-of-network benefits. Upon request, I will provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance carrier for potential reimbursement based on your out-of-network coverage.
The challenge in overcoming addictions
I understand that when addiction takes hold, it can leave you feeling hopeless, helpless, and discouraged by repeated unsuccessful attempts to stop or regain control. Having worked in the field of addiction treatment for nearly 15 years, I strongly believe that recovery is possible for anyone who is willing to engage in the process. In my experience, many people do not struggle because they lack the ability to change, but because they become stuck in deeply ingrained defense mechanisms, self-defeating behaviors, and patterns of thinking that unknowingly keep them trapped. Together, we can identify and work through these barriers, helping you build the insight, confidence, and skills needed to move forward and create lasting change.
