She is passionate about helping individuals and families navigate relational challenges in order to create healthier and happier relationships. Allison specializes in family conflict, relationship issues, depression, trauma, and anxiety
I believe in the strength and resiliency of the human spirit and consider it an honor to work with people on a daily basis. My job is to create a safe and nurturing environment so that each individual feels comfortable and supported as they work on their personal goals. Everyone's goals are as different as the individuals themselves, and in order to honor that individuality, my approach is eclectic and personalized to each person. I always encourage and welcome feedback in order to continually ensure that the techniques being used are effective and keep progress moving in a positive direction.
Many people come to therapy because they are tired of surviving. They may be struggling with the effects of trauma, grief and loss, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, or life transitions that have left them feeling disconnected from themselves and others. I believe our struggles make more sense when they are understood within the context of our life experiences, relationships, and the environments that shaped us. The ways we learn to trust, protect ourselves, connect with others, and understand our worth are often influenced by experiences that occurred long before we recognized their impact. My approach is trauma-informed, attachment-based, and culturally responsive. I work with individuals, couples, and families to explore patterns that may no longer serve them, heal unresolved wounds, strengthen relationships, and build a greater sense of clarity, connection, and purpose. I integrate EMDR and other evidence-based approaches to help clients process difficult experiences while developing new ways of relating to themselves and others. Therapy is not about fixing what is broken. It is about understanding your story, recognizing your strengths, and creating space for healing, growth, and meaningful change.
I believe that my mission in life is to help others by providing the space in which they can share their struggles and concerns without judgment. Life is difficult, and more than anything else, I think we all crave to be listened to. I enjoy listening, and I like to help others to listen, too. By listening carefully we can create deep connection with others. Strong connection helps make life a bit easier and more enjoyable. Being a therapist has been a dream of mine ever since I was in middle school and my brother brought his introduction to psychology textbook home from college! I love to understand why we all do the things we do, and I enjoy helping others to understand themselves and those around them better, too.
Has the stress of everyday life become too overwhelming? Do you feel your emotions are running high and starting to negatively impact your relationships with others? Maybe you just don’t feel quite like yourself. Maybe you have tried to cope on your own, but nothing seems to make a meaningful, long-term impact. Now more than ever, people are feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about how they are supposed to care for their own needs while balancing relationships and busy schedules. Starting therapy can feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to be! I believe finding a therapist who is the right fit is key to lasting change. After an initial consultation, we will start by taking the time to understand the challenges you are facing. We will explore your past and present experiences to better understand the patterns and emotions that have you feeling “stuck,” and we will collaborate on the best plan to help you push through the barriers keeping you in place. I offer a safe and supportive environment while providing a new perspective on issues you are encountering in order to guide you along your healing journey. Helping people live a more confident and empowered life is my passion. The road to growth, change, and healing can be a difficult one, but you don’t have to walk it alone. Call or email today for a consult, and together we can get started on your path to a better life!
Typically I work with clients who have unresolved trauma and is still stuck in problematic behavioral patterns. They have often done some "talk therapy" in the past but didn’t really find it that helpful. I use more experiential methods to help you make lasting changes that improve your quality of life, not just provide stabilization. I’ve found that talk therapy can be one of the slowest ways to do therapy, and that if you ignore sensory input from the body, then you’re only doing therapy from the neck up. Whether you’re facing new challenges or struggling with ongoing circumstances, you may be feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, helpless, or anxious. You may also have slipped back into unhealthy patterns of behavior that you worked hard to change. I take a collaborative approach to therapy, and I’ll tell you up front that I don’t have a crystal ball or magic wand! I believe that we each have a unique journey, and while I do have education and training as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Maryland, I haven’t lived your life, and I’m not an expert on YOU.
