I am Gifty Pampuru. My focus is on working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, phase of life issues, trauma and spiritual issues. I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, Internal Family Systems. I mostly work with adult population who struggle with anxiety, life stressors, depression, and trauma. I definitely want my client to feel comfortable with me. I do not believe that counseling has to be all serious. As we learn to pair negative moments with positive ones, I utilize humor, jokes, lived experiences (funny and tense). There are times, I have to be direct with clients (differs with clients). It was a long cherished dream since my young age to be a counselor because I was inspired by the counselors who lead our prayer group. While working as a mental health nurse and attending to my clients, I always wanted to do more that just nursing care. Of all the options, counseling was the only career I could do and though it was a long journey, I am glad I undertook it. I include the client in setting their goals. Sometimes the clients are aware of what they want to work on and other times, they need assistance. Client can expect a warm atmosphere with positive regard. They will be listened to and will be included in all decision making. At the end of the intake, they will be assisted in creating a care plan aiming towards the goals they want to reach and set their schedule.

If your child is having frequent meltdowns, struggling to listen, or seems overwhelmed by big emotions, it can feel exhausting trying to figure out how to help, when nothing you try seems to fully work. I specialize in child-centered play therapy, which allows children to express and process what they are feeling in a way that matches their developmental level, through play. Many of the children I work with are dealing with anxiety, behavioral challenges, emotional outbursts, or difficulty adjusting to changes at home or school. In our sessions, your child has a safe, consistent space to work through what is going on internally, while I help you better understand their behavior and feel more confident in how to respond at home. I support parents throughout the process so you feel more equipped, less overwhelmed, and not left guessing. My goal is to help your child feel more regulated and understood, and to help you feel more connected and confident as a parent.
Accepting new clients remotely and in person. I've practiced psychotherapy for over 40 years, and during most of that time also taught psychiatric residents at Johns Hopkins Medical School. My areas of specialization are bipolar type 2 and borderline personality condition. I've also worked with many entrepreneurs since the publication of my book, The Hypomanic Edge: The Link Between (a Little) Craziness and (a Lot of) Success in America. What's different about me is that after receiving traditional training, I've integrated it with meditation. Mindfulness, especially when combined with therapy, provides calm, objective self-awareness that leads to self-control, which may lessen the need for medication. More meditation can mean less medication. More recently, I'm working with research subjects who have undergone psilocybin therapy for a book, "The Cosmic Consciousness Cure." Affecting the same brain areas as meditation, psilocybin therapy produces a quantum leap in mindfulness. I'd be happy to speak with anyone seeking legal psilocybin treatment. I can't provide it, but it is now legally available in Oregon, and I would be happy to work with clients on integrating that experience.
