Learning to cope with stress, emotional pains and disappointing experiences (whether be school, relationships, work, etc.) is a prerequisite to human existence. As a therapist, for the past 17 years, I have had the opportunity to work with different populations with a variety of difficult emotional experiences, including depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, and relationship. Azizi Carle, better known as “Zee,” is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) serving clients in Massachusetts, with over 20 years of experience helping adults, children, couples, and families create meaningful, lasting change. She specializes in anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, women’s issues, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm.
I am a master's level clinician with 4 years of experience supporting clients through anxiety, stress, trauma, identity concerns, and major life transitions. I help clients build coping skills, resilience, and a stronger sense of emotional well-being. When meeting with me, you can expect collaborative, strengths-focused support that develops clarity and emotional resilience.
It is my sacred honor to help people with their deepest and most personal issues: their ancient wounds, in their lives within and without; their deepest hopes and fears, dreams and longings, and the blocks that interfere with creating their lives and finding and birthing their Selves. It saddens me deeply to see our world being offered "quick fixes," "bandaids," and "get over it" or "transcend it" philosophies for dealing with life's deepest wounds and traumas. It saddens me to see people being offered symptom "management" instead of real healing -- managing thoughts, feelings, and more -- leaving the real wound beneath the symptom, beneath the surface to continue to haunt them in their lives. It saddens me to see our world encouraging people to repeat as adults what they did as children - repress their feelings and find defenses to keep them away. For children, this is sanity- and life-saving. For adults, this is society degrading feeling and keeping us emotionally stuck, emotionally unmatured. For adults, this is society working against our healing, our growing, our transforming, our becoming all we can be. It saddens me to see us go 'round and 'round the vicious cycle of cause and effect when we leave our own individual wounds unhealed -- deeply affecting the state of our world and our country -- and then when the state of our world and country, in turn, triggers those same unhealed wounds within us. I bring to clients a message of lasting healing, healing to the root. I help people find and claim their own wounds, commit themselves to the real work of healing inside and out, work at their organic rhythm and pace to build their capacity to feel, and more. I also help people recognize the link between their individual healing and the healing of our planet. With a passion for safety and for healing to the root, I am committed to helping heal and transform our world one-by-one and on a global scale.
I am honored to promote and guide the personal discovery and inner healing of clients with difficulties around childhood trauma, identity and values clarification, low self-esteem, family-of-origin issues, histories of abuse, childhood emotional neglect, and issues related to "sense of self." I firmly believe that we do the best we can given our current circumstances and that you are the expert of your own life. I utilize a client-centered, strengths-based approach to treatment and strive to maintain a safe, trustworthy space where each person feels seen and heard for who they are. My practice leans on pillars of Humanism and Rogerian psychotherapy, as well as attachment, family systems, and the impact that the continuum of trauma plays in our lives. These models emphasize the client's unique perspective and understanding of their own life. They encourage the client to make meaning of their experiences within the context of that individual's entire life. I welcome everyone, and I offer free consultations to answer questions, provide information, or to help you organize your thoughts and feelings as to whether my treatment approach is right for you at this time.
Intimate relationships bring joy and pain to each of us. No deep partnership is without disappointments, confusion, and an experience of minor or major betrayals. Yet these predictable challenges invite us to broaden our capacity for understanding and enter new depths of intimacy as we repair and heal. As a couples therapist with a focus on sexuality, I believe that no matter what the difficulty, we can all reshape our relationships to have the kind of deep connections we yearn for. I specialize in working with couples who are experiencing difficulties in intimacy. These disruptions often emerge from pre-existing patterns that undermine communication and sexual expression. Sexual difficulties are often driven by anxiety and shame that interrupt performance, pleasure, or deep closeness. Communication struggles are shaped by our unique experience of attachment. Attachment and sexuality are intertwined and form the foundation for deep intimacy. I help couples increase their understanding of both and develop the new relationship skills to enhance communication, sexual expression, and deep understanding. Over the last 30 years, I have helped couples, families, and larger social systems discover new approaches to quickly solve previously insurmountable problems. In addition to my work with couples and families, I have developed and led family therapy training and research programs in Massachusetts, Delaware, and Maryland, and assisted public and private health care systems to provide more effective, relationship-focused treatment for their clients. I believe deeply in the human ability to repair and heal. And it’s my experience that when we respond to a relationship challenge by seeking help, we embrace our own important power of growth. My strength-based, brief treatment approach is built on collaboration, curiosity, and humor. All three are key to creating your relational toolkit and deepening your ability to connect to others.
