I offer psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
Hello, I’m a dual-licensed mental health counselor based in Brookfield, WI. I specialize in trauma treatment, including posttraumatic stress (PTSD) and complex or developmental trauma, as well as anxiety, grief inlcuding life transistions, couples & family counseling, and professional burnout. My work focuses on helping you reconnect with yourself in a way that feels safe, steady, and sustainable, so you are truly living life. My approach is deeply trauma-focused and rooted in nervous system regulation and whole-person healing. I integrate eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), sensorimotor psychotherapy, somatic experiencing, brainspotting, and internal family systems (IFS), along with other evidence-based approaches, to create an eclectic and individualized experience. I believe healing involves both mind and body, not just understanding your story intellectually, but gently processing it so your system can finally feel safe, settled, and more at ease. I also work with individuals struggling with substance use and addiction, whether you are questioning your relationship with alcohol or drugs, actively seeking recovery, or working to maintain long-term sobriety. My approach is nonjudgmental, collaborative, and grounded in understanding the underlying stress, trauma, or emotional pain that often drives addictive behaviors. Together, we focus on creating sustainable change that supports both recovery and overall well-being. Therapy with me is collaborative, compassionate, and intentional. We move at a pace that honors your nervous system while still moving toward meaningful change. My goal is not simply symptom relief, but helping you feel more grounded, more connected, and more fully yourself.
I will help you discover the joy of life and living in purpose. For over 20 years, I have had the pleasure of working with diverse populations struggling with a wide range of mental health issues. I provide general, adjustment, grief, and trauma therapy in individual and group settings. My approach is holistic, which means that I will work with you as a whole person with an important story, not just a set of symptoms that need to be relieved. I also am an integrated therapist, which means that I draw from a rich set of psychological theories and tools acquired over the years, to help you in a way that best suits your unique needs and goals Every person I work with is distinctive and special. I will meet you where you and help you understand your issues in a way that encourages growth, hope, and new experiences.
With over 25 years of experience as a psychotherapist, I believe that the therapeutic bond is crucial to a feeling of safety that is necessary for healing. Because therapy is an intimate experience, I will tailor treatment with you, ensuring that your needs and goals are always prioritized. As we work together, I integrate techniques that are specifically designed to help you in both practical ways and in ways that create lasting change. I use my own personal qualities as a non-judgmental, warm and empathic person, and I will encourage you to be gentle with yourself as you go through the process of healing and change.
I believe therapy should be a space where you feel supported, understood, and comfortable showing up as yourself. Building a genuine and trusting relationship is an important part of the work we will do together. I strive to create a warm, nurturing environment where you can feel heard and supported. I take the time to get to know you, understand your experiences, and learn what you need from therapy. I follow your pace and tailor our work to your individual needs, goals, and preferences. What feels helpful may also change over time, and we can continue to adjust our approach as we learn more about what works best for you. I have a particular passion for working with adults who have experienced trauma. This may include a single traumatic experience or multiple experiences that have occurred throughout your life. Trauma can shape how we see ourselves, how safe we feel in the world, how we connect with other people, how we respond to emotions, and the patterns we develop to protect ourselves. Together, we can work to better understand what you are experiencing, recognize patterns that may be keeping you feeling stuck, and develop new ways of navigating difficult emotions, relationships, and life experiences. In addition to trauma, I also enjoy working with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, relationship concerns, stress, and life transitions. You might find yourself constantly overthinking, struggling to feel good enough, having difficulty navigating relationships, feeling disconnected from yourself, or simply knowing that something in your life doesn’t feel quite right. In therapy, we can work toward addressing these concerns. My approach to therapy is evidence-based, integrative, and trauma-informed. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and other trauma-informed interventions. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I integrate different techniques based on your individual needs, goals, and preferences.
I am here to help support you through your journey so you can reach your full potential! With all the stressors in our society today, you may benefit from a caring clinician who can be a main source of support and offer effective therapeutic treatment. I believe the most important element in a therapeutic relationship is empathy and rapport. I try to understand your world and the experiences that you have had, because only then can we process your emotions and perspectives together. I hope to help you reach your goals while offering a supportive and safe environment.
I am a strong believer that with the aid of a trusting, warm, skillful, and open-minded therapist, people can bring about real, positive changes to their lives. I work with my clients in an empathetic and open dialogue to not only find the root causes of current behaviors and thinking patterns, but also to help change them. I do so understanding that each individual is the expert on themselves, so the entire process is collaborative. I am proud to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I work with my clients to help them feel more confident while exploring their sexual orientation, gender, and their place in the community. I have assisted trans and nonbinary individuals in obtaining their gender-affirming medical care. I am well versed in issues concerning kink, poly, and open relationships. If you are interested in seeing what I can offer, please call or email me, and I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. The first step in accomplishing a goal is to set the goal.
In the chaos of day-to-day life, we can forget how much our innate strengths can help us manage whatever turmoil we encounter. In therapy, we will work to help you recognize and build on your skills, strengths, and values so they can support you through some of your toughest situations. Together, we will work collaboratively toward meeting your goals and needs, helping make your life more comfortable and satisfying. I hope that each person who meets with me feels accepted, and I respect each individual’s culture, gender, race, religion, and sexual identity.
I'm Liam, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in downtown Chicago where I offer individual therapy appointments. I primarily use the methods of Strengths Based, Client-Driven, and Person-Centered talk therapy. That basically boils down to me believing that you know yourself best and my role is to help you find a path forward. Everybody's life is wildly different; I can assist you in your decision and achievement of treatment goals that ring truest to you, even if that goal is just having someone to talk with. Wanting a better quality of life and seeking support in that is totally normal. Frankly, reaching out for help in and of itself is terrifying; let alone help from a stranger on the internet. If you are struggling I would be glad to hear from you. To avoid phone tag I am most accessible via e-mail to set up a time for us to talk and see if you'd like to come in for a session.
These are challenging times. Are you stressed? Are you having conflict with family andor friends? Are you depressed, unhappy, or experiencing low self esteem? Do you need more to feel fulfilled? Are you repeating unhealthy patterns? I believe we all have the right and the ability to reach our highest potential. Some times we just need a professional to help get past the fear, pain patterns, obstacles and learn new tools. In a confidential humanistic and holistic way, I work to draw out each person's Inner Resources and practice new tools to eliminate self defeating habit patterns and improve self esteem, mood and relationships. I would feel privileged to support and guide you in your journey of challenges.
