Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or constantly on edge—and not sure how to change it? You’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. At Perspectives Counseling of Long Island, we specialize in helping adolescents and adults who are struggling with anxiety, stress, emotional overwhelm, and relationship challenges. Many of our clients come to us feeling frustrated with themselves—wanting to feel better, communicate better, and show up differently in their lives, but not knowing how to get there. Our practice was founded by Abby Leefer, LCSW-R, an experienced clinician with decades of work supporting individuals, couples, and families. Abby built PCLI on the belief that therapy should never be one-size-fits-all. Every person brings a unique story, and your therapy should reflect that. Our team takes a warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth approach. We actively help you understand what’s going on beneath the surface and give you tools you can actually use in your everyday life. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, life transitions, low self-esteem, or difficulties at home or in relationships, we meet you where you are and help you move forward. We draw from evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and family systems work, but more importantly, we tailor everything to you—your goals, your personality, and what actually works in your life. Above all, we are committed to creating a space where you feel comfortable being honest—without fear of judgment. Therapy should feel like a place where you can exhale, gain clarity, and start making real, meaningful changes. If you’re ready to feel more in control, more confident, and more like yourself again, we’re here to help.

Many of my clients come to therapy for help with relationships, and are frustrated that they repeat patterns but don't have an alternative. I believe relationships are central to life and I also know that much of what we learn about how to relate comes from childhood. Often we've outgrown certain ways of interacting, but it can be hard to know what or how to do things differently. My approach to therapy is collaborative and leans heavily on curiosity. I don't see therapy as a place to "get fixed" but a place to explore, learn, and embrace who you are. In order to do things differently, we need to understand ourselves, and this requires an open, non-judgmental a mind. Of course it can feel difficult and even scary to learn about yourself or discover new things, so I will work at your pace and refer to you as the expert on your experiences. I have great respect for our ability to heal and grow if given the opportunity and a safe space to do so. I believe we are all capable of living a life that aligns with who we authentically are, not the person we created to make the world happy.
My philosophy and vision in treatment involves facilitating a combination of talk therapy and mindful body practices, enabling each person to realize his or her unique self with compassion and awareness.
Therapy is a journey of self discovery which complements life experiences. It is through active listening and integrated approaches that the past is explored to determine how it relates to the present so that more satisfying life choices can be made. Research has shown that there is a mind body connection and for well being and balance, therapy can be a resource. If you are on the fence about going, " It is easy to do the things that are bad and not beneficial to the self but very very hard to do indeed is that which is beneficial and good." Dhammapada.

Busy people get it all done and and take care of others. You have spent years being the strong one, the peacemaker, and the one who always puts others first. You are tired of carrying so much and want to feel better and meet your own goals. You want joy, happiness and peace. Do you have stress, anxiety, or feel overwhelmed? Do you have patterns you know you do over and over again that you want to change? Do you feel you are an over-thinker? Do you have difficulty unwinding or relaxing? Do you spend a lot of time helping others? Is there something bothering you that you can't seem to get past? Most of what drives our behavior exists under the surface from old experiences and memories where we had a take-home awareness. When the unconscious becomes conscious we are more able to make changes faster and with less difficulty. Memories, experiences, and life experiences can block or impact future goals. Reach out! You've always been the strong one, the helper, the one who wants just peace and ease, and the one who keeps it all together. You know your own needs, and wants have gotten lost or been pushed aside somehow and you are finding it is time for something more. You want to feel calmer, lighter and more connected to yourself. I help women release emotional blocks, old wounds, people pleasing, perfectionism, family dynamics, life transitions, grief, loss and traumatic experiences so they can step into lives that feel fulfilling, peaceful and aligned with who they truly are. My approach blends compassionate, attuned listening with tools like EMDR, and EFT tapping to help you uncover what's been holding you back and gently let it go. We work at your pace creating space for healing that feels safe, grounded and deeply supportive. Together, we'll explore your patterns, beliefs, and emotions, not just to cope with them, but to transform them. so you can feel at home in your own life again. I am looking forward to meeting you and helping you get started today!
You’re probably known as the person who has it together. From the outside, you’re capable, successful, dependable, and handling all the things. But inside, your brain may feel like it’s running 47 browser tabs, and you can’t figure out which to close. Maybe you’re exhausted from being “fine,” stuck in perfectionism or overthinking, or carrying a mental load that would qualify as a second full-time job. You may be great at taking care of everyone else while having absolutely no idea what to do with your own needs. Therapy is a place where you don’t have to perform, achieve, fix, or have it all figured out. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York. I specialize in complex trauma and work with high-achievers, perfectionists, and parents who have learned to survive by being capable, responsible, accommodating, and in control. Using approaches such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) parts work, we’ll explore the patterns underneath the coping without shaming the strategies that helped you get here. You don’t have to wait until you’re completely burned out to ask for help. Maybe you’re ready to understand why you can accomplish so much and still feel like you’re barely keeping up. Together, we can move beyond simply functioning and begin creating a life with more connection, flexibility, and ease. Let’s talk about it.
I work with individuals and couples who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected, often dealing with anxiety, depression, or relationship stress. Many are used to handling things on their own but reach a point where they want clarity and change. Together, we identify patterns, improve communication, and build practical tools to help you feel more in control and move forward with confidence. I combine cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with a person-centered approach to help you understand your thoughts, manage emotions, and create real-life change. Sessions are supportive, practical, and focused on giving you tools you can actually use outside of therapy. Starting therapy can feel uncomfortable, but you don’t have to figure everything out alone. If you’re ready to feel more grounded, understood, and in control, this can be a good place to start.
