Campbell is a city in Santa Clara County, California. It was founded by Benjamin Campbell in 1846. The city has a land area of 6 square miles and is situated in the heart of Silicon Valley.

Campbell is home to 41,000 people. Ninety-four percent of Campbell residents who are over the age of 25 have graduated from high school. Fifty-two percent of residents in this age group also have a bachelor’s degree.

Roughly 24% of residents in Campbell are foreign-born. The ethnic composition of the population is 58% white, 18% Hispanic, 17% Asian, and 2% black. Over 30% of residents speak a language other than English at home. Around 4,400 Spanish speakers and 1,500 Chinese speakers live in Campbell.

Mental Health in Campbell

Youth suicide rates in Santa Clara County have remained relatively stable since 2003. Of the people who have died by suicide in the county, two-thirds were 20-24 years of age. Seventy-five percent of young people who commit suicide in Santa Clara County are male. 

Many residents who died by suicide faced a recent crisis or mental health issue. One-third were undergoing mental health treatment. Around 48% had concerns such as depression, alcohol dependence, and substance use. In 2017, Santa Clara County opened a sobering center to help residents with drug and alcohol addiction.
