I aim to provide a warm, laidback, nonjudgmental, safe space for clients to explore and process mental health issues.
I am Ann Bohr Benner, LCSW. I like to work with adults of all ages who are dealing with depression, anxiety, life transitions, andor grief. We start with and come back to client goals. I think holistically about people who are in distress. Sleep, diet, relaxation, exercise, social support, and spiritual life all can contribute to change. Then self-awareness, insight, and intentional behavior change are important. I endeavor to create a safe space in which each person can be exactly where they are, and eventually, the natural inclination to heal and grow can flourish. I work with people who have depression, anxiety or are struggling with loss andor change. I work with people who are dealing with the fallout from trauma. I work at creating a supportive environment that allows people to safely experience difficult feelings and identify who they are and want to be. I can be gently accepting as well as clear about keeping on task. I first identified an interest in differences in people and culture when I chose an undergraduate major in anthropology. I went to social work school out of a desire for social progress. I've done community social work, community organizing, medical social work, and worked at a family counseling agency. I worked in mental health to empower people to take charge of their own recoveries after facilitating my own recovery. I am deeply investing in work as a therapist now, as I get to integrate this range of work experience as well as much life experience. Our work is centered on client goals. We periodically come back to and re-evaluate goals, since these can change with time and experience. In the first session, I will want to hear why you decided to pursue therapy, and I will talk with you about what to expect from me. I will ask you some questions about your history, as appropriate. We will work out a schedule for a meeting.
We offer medication management, therapy, or both depending on what you need. Led by a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP), we provide what most practices can't: comprehensive psychiatric support under one roof from someone who sees the whole picture. No bouncing between providers. No repeating your history. No gaps in your care. Our approach is simple: we listen first. A successful treatment plan requires a true understanding of your history, your goals, and what hasn't worked before—so we can build a plan that actually moves you forward.

While my practice, Psychological Healthcare, includes many individuals, my specialty is working with couples. In addition to coping with the stress of everyday life, I have extensive experience helping people with infidelity, boundary issues, family challenges, conflict resolution difficulties, anger management, loss of intimacy, trust issues, parenting disagreements, and blended family challenges. Everyone I work with has a different combination of goals. Whether I am working with an individual or a couple, I strive to help my clients not only achieve their goals, but also live a more fulfilling life. For over 25 years, I have seen many couples begin treatment on the edge of a break-up or divorce and find their way forward. Are you feeling overwhelmed to the point that is effecting your focus or ability to sleep at night? Do you find your self feeling sad or not feeling anything at all and you can't see to enjoy even your favorite activities and interests? I am a licensed professional counselor who has been helping people experience breakthough in their minds and emotions for over 6 years. I have a fiery passion for helping people gain insight into their patterns of behavior, including linking their past to their present. I have a compassionate, client-led approach to therapy, tailoring the work that I do to each individual client. I start by completing a comprehensive intake assessment where I screen each person who comes to see me for various mental health conditions. I always provide information along the way and share with clients what I observe and any diagnoses that I assess them with. Then I work with the person to develop a comprehensive treatment plan to identify the goals and objectives of therapy within the first month of counseling. Within the working process, I combine compassionate, empathetic listening with teaching practice skills to provide an avenue for making change possible.
Life is often full of challenges and therapy can be a welcomed support in coping with difficulties, building resilience, and creating happiness. I believe that individuals are best served by an integrative, strength-based approach. My office is a safe and confidential space to get to know yourself better, explore your needs, and develop strategies to support healing and growth.
I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is a healing experience. During sessions, we are able to process your thoughts, emotions, and lived truth in context with your current life. We work together, with you in charge of the pace and direction that we go in. I offer you a mirror to see your life from different perspectives, as we so often get stuck in one thought pattern. I believe you have deep wisdom within you; my job is to help you connect to your inner self so that you can gain insight that allows you to live your best life.
