Healing unfolds when the connection between mind, body, and spirit is gently supported and understood. Rooted in a relational, trauma-informed approach, I offer a compassionate space where you feel seen, heard, and accepted at your own pace. I welcome people of all identities and backgrounds and proudly affirm the LGBTQIA+ community. Together, we'll explore how personal experiences, generational trauma, culture, and societal influences shape your relationships, beliefs, and sense of self, creating space for greater healing, connection, and inner harmony. I offer therapy that supports the nervous system in healing from overwhelm and past experiences that may feel present in your daily life. Using approaches like EMDR, parts work, attachment-focused therapy, and the Structural Dissociation Model, we gently explore survival responses, fostering greater integration and creating new ways of experiencing yourself. This work helps you cultivate greater self-awareness, connect with your inner world, and develop a deeper sense of safety within yourself. I can support you in releasing long-held protective patterns, strengthening self-trust, and living with greater ease and choice. If you're ready to reconnect with your inner wisdom, I would be honored to walk with you!
Working with an individual or family member is a sacred trust that I take very seriously. After working positively with children, teens, adults, and families for over 25 years, I find that most all problems can be solved and most all mental health challenges can be improved. You just need to be willing to look at things from a different perspective and be willing to change the way you may be approaching the situation. I see these challenges like climbing a mountain on a road bike. Initially, it is steep and as you peddle it is easy to want to give up, but if you have someone who has been there before guiding and encouraging you not to give up, you then borrow their hope and faith for a while and you keep pedaling and finally, you make it. I say this as I have ridden across the United States twice (over 3000 miles on a road bike) to raise money for those less fortunate during a race called "Race Across America." I practice what I preach and I believe with consistent support anyone can make it to the summit and reach their goal. I hope to have the privilege to come alongside you - my journey is to help others with their journey.
Are you exhausted from holding it all together at work, in your family, or in your partnership only to feel frustrated that the same patterns keep resurfacing? You’re capable, thoughtful, and driven yet something isn’t shifting. You're finding that talking about it and reading about it has not brought the results you hoped for. Evidence-based, more experiential therapy can help you understand what’s underneath those patterns so real change becomes possible. As you gain clarity about the parts of you that work so hard to protect, please, or perform, you’ll feel less internally conflicted and more grounded in your relationships. I offer a steady, nonjudgmental space where you can slow down and speak honestly about what you’re carrying. Rather than adding more tools or techniques, we focus on what’s happening inside. Using Internal Family Systems (IFS) we’ll gently explore the different parts of you that have been trying to help, even the self-critical ones. You have so many parts inside that are longing to be known. Together, we can uncover the self-compassion and confidence that’s already within you, and ease the internal conflicts that haven't found relief with traditional talk therapy. If you’re ready for meaningful, lasting change, I invite you to reach out.
Are you busy caring for others but running on empty? Do you manage a lot, but underneath struggle with your own anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, food or body image issues or unresolved trauma? Does a part of you long for more connection in your close relationships (partner or friendships)? Are your struggles needing your attention? Let's give you the attention you need and deserve. I look forward to creating a safe, attuned therapy relationship with you in which you can feel seen, understood and cared for. We will listen closely to your feelings, actions, thoughts, bodily sensations and even your dreams to foster greater self-awareness and self-compassion. We will work with 'difficult' emotions, helping you to process them. We will also track your patterns in intimate relationships and your attachment styles to help you become more secure and free to give and receive love from a place of greater health. We can use the therapy relationship as a context to experience how you relate and what you need. We can discover not only what keeps you stuck in your struggle but also what will help you find relief and connection. As needed, I can help you process trauma (single incident or repeated, complex) with a gentle, steady approach. Together we can listen to the mind and body to understand the negative beliefs you hold as a result of the trauma. We can also use different methods for working through the unprocessed pain. EMDR (eye movement, desensitization and reprocessing) is one specific form of trauma treatment I incorporate, as appropriate. For those who desire spiritual integration, I can help people understand themselves as it pertains to their faith journey. I can be a safe place to deconstruct harmful beliefs andor reconstruct helpful beliefs and practices. In all of these processes I trust that the rest, intimacy, acceptance, change, relief and creativity you desire will emerge.
I believe that the client is the expert in his or her own life, however, it is frustrating to go to a therapist who continually asks "how does that make you feel?" I care about how you feel, but more importantly, I want to know what you are doing about it. I believe that finding a solution is more important than focussing on the problem. In addition to traditional therapy, I also offer psychological testing for those who are interested in psychometric evaluations of intelligence and personality. I also provide a number of screening instruments to discern a more global diagnostic picture. Therapy can be eye opening and exciting, but having a full psychological profile done is mind blowing!
When over-functioning, high levels of achievement, and basic coping skills aren't leading to life satisfaction, it is time to look inward. Welcome! I utilize attachment-based therapy to help women with anxiety heal from unprocessed trauma and increase self-confidence. Many of my clients were responsible, mature children and adolescents who learned to stay safe and succeed through people-pleasing, avoidance, perfectionism, hyper-independence, and over-achieving. As adults, they often sacrifice their own needs to care for others. They may be hard workers at work but feel underappreciated. They may experience high levels of anxiety in relationships leading to avoiding closeness with others or clinging on tightly when their abandonment wounds are activated. They often feel like nothing they do is ever good enough, fear that others will reject them if they do not excel, or need to constantly prove themselves. I work with clients to explore the origins of their anxiety so that together we can process unresolved trauma, increase distress tolerance, and find new ways to self-soothe that allow them to live more freely and authentically.
We all enter the world through the same biological process. But that's where the similarity ends. Through our own family dysfunction, we become emotionally scarred and begin to believe things about ourselves that are not true. Things like: no one loves me and no one ever will, I will never achieve my goals, I am a mistake, I am alone and always will be, I will never find happiness, etc. Then we live our lives in the dark shadow of those deep-seated beliefs. Through therapy, you will learn to recognize those ugly lies that you've been told and taught. You will learn to challenge and dismiss them. Then you will begin to believe the truth, that you are no better or worse than others. That who you become and what you achieve is truly a matter of choice. Then you will learn and practice how to make healthy choices based on your new healthy beliefs that you are capable, lovable, and will begin achieving happiness today. Emotional growth is a life-long journey. My passion is helping hurting people begin the road-trip toward their highest possible level of emotional health. I lived with emotional pain many years before seeking therapy and was certain I was alone, that no one understood my personal struggle, and no one cared. That was my emotional state when I entered therapy as a last cry for help. Through my own therapy, I began the healing process and soon found hope. The world became a brighter place, my family began to heal, my personal and professional goals seemed to take on a life of their own and positive things began to be the norm, not the exception for me. I became a therapist so I could teach others to experience the wonderful world that is waiting just beyond the dark horizon of hopelessness, sadness, and gloom. Join me on the road to emotional health and happiness. I will initially hold your hand and guide you. But you will be taught and encouraged to let go of my hand and run free, run ahead of me, and never again allow others to negatively influence your destiny.
Depression. Anxiety. Relationship and career problems. These very real difficulties of living represent potent opportunities for growth and transformation. This is not always easy to see, however. A key step is developing insight, combined with a willingness to accept increasing levels of personal responsibility. As a therapist and coach, my orientation is holistic. I incorporate a whole-person approach that emphasizes physical, mental, emotional, and interpersonal factors. I view human experience as an inherently creative process, and work to empower clients to harness their innate potential to create meaningful and fulfilling lives through committed action based on personal values. I offer a diverse background in therapy, assessment, and coaching. I am most experienced in addressing clinical issues related to depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, and parenting, as well as broader concerns of meaning, growth, and personal potential. I work with children, adults, and couples from a variety of backgrounds. I have practiced since 2004, and recently extended my expertise by completing a PhD in clinical psychology. I have a background in psychological research, and my work has been published in peer-reviewed scientifc journals. Clinically, I have been affiliated with the Rehabilitation Institute of Southern California, Straight Talk Inc., Summa Health System, and, most recently, the Cleveland VA Medical Center.
