Isaac is a trauma-informed counselor who specializes in individual therapy for most age groups and has worked with many different types of clients; this includes those suffering from trauma, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and individuals with severe mental illness. Isaac's experience includes treatment of PTSD and other trauma-related conditions, obsessive compulsive, various eating issues, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, anger issues, and various psychotic conditions. Isaac is a firm believer in evidence-based therapy, so his therapeutic approach changes from client to client; however, his default approach is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). In the past, he has also used person-centered therapy, solution-based therapy, and psychological first aid. In 2018, Isaac received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with minors in English and Criminal Justice. In 2021, he received his Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. Before coming to Mind of Peace Counseling, Isaac worked as an assessor for the only Maximum-Security Mental Health Hospital in Texas. He then worked as a counselor for a non-profit, focusing on providing services to victims of crimes. Isaac is a proponent of maintaining a work-life balance where possible for my clients, as well as for himself. When Isaac is not working with clients, he enjoys playing video games. His favorite genre is a tie between RPGs and grand strategy. Isaac also actively plays dungeons and dragons with a friend group on the weekends. He also enjoys reading and spending the rest of his time wrangling his great pyrenees dog named Alpine.
I have worked with those who are involved with the justice system and struggling with substance abuse for years. In recent years, I have also expanded my specialty to include disabled veterans, first responders, including CIZM and debriefs. I have also worked for many years with those who are both victims of domestic violence and those who have acted out domestically. My life experience as a person in long-term recovery and formerly justice-involved has as much, if not more, impact than my education. I have lived in dark places in my life and found a path into the light, which I have been able to utilize to help others. I have found a path out of the darkness and have lived in the light for over two decades. I am active in 12-step recovery, and I live my life in such a way that those who come to know me want to come to know their Creator and to take the necessary actions to change. I specialize in behavioral change, and I utilize not just my education but my lived experience. I know what it takes to change. I have spent years walking in the darkness driven by mental health and substance abuse. For more than two decades, I have carried a message of hope both professionally and as a layman in recovery. I speak out and recover out loud so that others may find hope and a way out of the darkness they are faced with in their lives.
