My Approach to Therapy

My approach to therapy is grounded, collaborative, and attuned to real life. Therapy with me is a conversation, not a one-size-fits-all process. We’ll talk about what’s happening in your life, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and identify what might help you move forward. I’ll listen, ask questions, offer another perspective when it may be helpful, and help you recognize strengths you may have lost sight of along the way. Together, we’ll also develop practical tools for managing stress, navigating difficult emotions, improving relationships, and responding differently to patterns that may no longer be working for you. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and other evidence-based approaches. Rather than fitting you into a particular method, we’ll shape our work around your needs, goals, and what feels useful in your everyday life. We won’t rush. We’ll work together at a pace that feels manageable, building greater clarity, confidence, and resilience as you move forward. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin. We can start with where you are.

My Practice & Services

Resilience Grove Counseling is a virtual therapy practice serving adults throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts. I created my practice to offer a warm, grounded space where therapy feels personal, collaborative, and connected to real life. Sessions are provided through secure telehealth, making it easier to fit therapy into your life without the additional time and travel of an office visit. My approach is strengths-based, trauma-informed, and flexible because I don’t believe therapy should be one-size-fits-all. I bring more than 25 years of experience in social work to my practice, along with compassion, curiosity, practical support, and humor when it fits. My hope is that therapy gives you room to understand yourself more fully while also developing tools you can carry into everyday life. If you’re wondering whether therapy—or working with me—is right for you, I offer a free 15-minute consultation. It’s a chance to connect, ask questions, and see if we might be a good fit. You don’t have to have everything figured out. We can start with a conversation.

My Role as a Therapist

I see my role as walking alongside you—not telling you what to do or assuming I have all the answers. You know your life better than anyone, and my job is to bring curiosity, compassion, clinical experience, and another perspective to the conversation. I’ll listen, ask questions, help you notice patterns, and gently challenge you when it may be helpful. We’ll make sense of what you’re experiencing, recognize the strengths you already have, and develop practical tools that fit your life. I’ll also invite your feedback along the way because therapy should feel like something we’re doing together, not something being done to you. Therapy with me is a conversation. There can be room for difficult emotions, reflection, practical problem-solving, and humor when it fits. My goal is to create a space where you feel supported while also helping you build greater clarity, confidence, and trust in your ability to navigate what comes next.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

It’s completely understandable to be unsure about therapy. You may be wondering whether you really need it, whether talking will help, or whether you’ll even know what to say. You don’t need to have those answers before reaching out. Therapy with me is a conversation. We’ll start with where you are, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and figure out together what might be helpful. There’s no expectation that you arrive with everything neatly explained or a list of goals already figured out. If you’re still on the fence, a free 15-minute consultation can be a simple first step. We can talk, you can ask questions, and you can decide whether working together feels right for you.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Life has given me my own share of challenges, changes, losses, and times of uncertainty. Those experiences haven’t given me the answers to someone else’s life, but they have helped me become a more compassionate and grounded therapist. I know what it’s like when life doesn’t unfold quite the way you expected and when simply “pushing through” stops being enough. I’ve learned that resilience isn’t about always being strong. Sometimes it means adjusting, asking for help, giving yourself some grace, or finding a different way forward. That perspective influences the way I work. I listen without assuming I know your experience, I won’t rush you, and I believe there can be room for both difficult conversations and humor along the way. Therapy with me is a conversation, and I bring my professional experience as well as the perspective that comes from having lived a life of my own into the room.

Groups I Work With

I work with adults throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts who are looking for support with anxiety, stress and overwhelm, trauma, grief and loss, relationship challenges, caregiving, and major life transitions. Through my virtual therapy practice based in Granby, CT, I support adults who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or uncertain about what comes next. Many of the people I work with have spent years being the strong one, caring for others, managing responsibilities, or simply doing what needed to be done. Over time, chronic stress, anxiety, difficult experiences, loss, or significant changes in life can leave you feeling exhausted or wondering whether the ways you’ve always coped are still working. I also support adults navigating work and career changes, family and relationship transitions, caregiving responsibilities, grief, health-related changes, and other periods of uncertainty. Sometimes life looks different than you expected, or you may find yourself questioning what you want and need in this next chapter. Therapy isn’t only for times of crisis. I also work with adults seeking personal growth, greater self-understanding, stronger relationships, and a deeper connection with themselves and what matters most to them. You don’t need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. Sometimes recognizing that something needs to change is enough of a place to start.
