My Approach to Therapy

Seeking therapy often means you’re carrying something heavy, whether it’s anxiety, grief, depression, or the lasting effects of trauma. My role is to provide a safe, supportive space so you don’t have to carry it alone. Trauma can distort your sense of safety and identity. What used to feel familiar can start to feel unsafe, and uncertainty can lead to second-guessing and a return to outdated survival strategies. My work is grounded in an integrative approach that supports you in processing what happened, restoring regulation, creating lasting and resilient connections, and building more predictability in daily life. My name is Valerie Ashley. I am a Pennsylvania Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and an integrative trauma and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapist whose practice is primarily virtual. My master’s degree in Community and Trauma Counseling (Thomas Jefferson University), combined with training and certifications in EMDR, domestic violence, and sexual abuse, allows me to integrate both evidence-based practices and deep empathy into our work. Together, we’ll honor your experiences while focusing on the steps you want to take moving forward. My approach is trauma-informed, trauma-responsive, and person-centered, meaning I adapt therapy to your unique needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all method. I am currently accepting new clients. If my approach resonates with you, please contact me for a free initial consultation.

My Practice & Services

My treatment methods include trauma-informed care (TIC), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), person-centered therapy, and traumatic grief counseling. Groups I Work With

My primary focus is working with people who are experiencing the effects of trauma, abuse, and neglect. I also work with people who survived the attacks on the World Trade Center, either as first responders or as survivors. I’m connected with the Pennsylvania Victims Compensation Assistance Program (VCAP), which helps people in Pennsylvania who have experienced sexual abuse pay for therapy.
