My Approach to Therapy

I am a Counselling Psychologist with Germany’s Federal Association of German Psychologists (BDP), specializing in depersonalization, derealization, anxiety, and trauma in audio-only therapy sessions. I work with adults worldwide through audio-only therapy sessions in English as a mental health therapist from Hamburg, Germany. My approach draws on internal family systems (IFS), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), gestalt therapy, and schema therapy. In practice, that means we pay attention to what’s actually happening in the moment. We work with the different parts of you: the anxious part, the perfectionist, the inner critic, and the part that’s been carrying something for decades without ever naming it. We go at your pace. We don’t stay on the surface. I specialize in depersonalization and derealization (DPDR), anxiety, and trauma. That includes complex trauma that doesn’t stem from a single event but was just how you grew up. I have written two books on depersonalization: The floor beneath the floor (a memoir of living with severe DPDR) and Reclaiming Reality (a clinical guide). I have also produced an audio course called DPDR First-Aid. Many of my clients are expats, third culture adults, or people living in places where the right therapist isn’t locally available. Some have been dealing with DPDR for years without a therapist who understood it. Some are high-functioning professionals who look fine on the outside and feel quietly exhausted. Some are just tired of therapy that doesn’t go deep enough. The first session is 80 minutes. It’s a full working session, not a brief consultation. Follow-ups are 50 minutes. I’m direct, but never harsh. If we’re not the right fit, I’ll tell you honestly and point you somewhere better for counseling.

My Practice & Services

JanusJuno is a solo online practice. All sessions are audio-only, conducted by phone or secure audio call. There is no office to visit, and there is no video option. This is by design, not by limitation. I work from Hamburg, Germany, but my practice is fully international. Clients book through janusjuno.com, and we meet at a time that works across time zones. I regularly work with people in Central European Time (CET), Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), Eastern Standard Time (EST), and Gulf time zones. Beyond individual therapy, I offer clinical supervision for therapists working with dissociative clients, particularly depersonalization and derealization. If you're a therapist seeing someone with depersonalization-derealization (DPDR) and your usual frameworks aren't landing, I can help. I do not offer a sliding scale at this time, but I'm happy to discuss options if cost is a barrier. If you'd like to get in touch, the best route is through janusjuno.com.

Groups I Work With

I work with adults worldwide, online only. I work particularly well with people dealing with depersonalization and derealization who have been misdiagnosed or dismissed by previous therapists. I also support expats and third-culture adults living far from home, as well as high-functioning professionals carrying anxiety, trauma, or depression that nobody around them sees. I also work with couples who are stuck in repeating patterns, deciding whether to stay together, or wanting to separate consciously rather than destructively. I often work with people in the Gulf, Asia and parts of Europe, where access to the right English-speaking therapist is limited. I’m also a good fit for anyone who has tried therapy before and felt like it didn’t go deep enough. An audio-only format can also suit clients who explicitly do not want to be on camera, whether for cultural, personal, or clinical reasons.
