My Approach to Therapy

Life can be very stressful with the many obligations and demands placed on us. Whether it be at home or work, being overwhelmed seems to be 'the norm' these days. You may feel like you have to do it all or somehow, you're a failure. Maybe you're feeling that having the relationships you want are out of reach; or living the life you always imagined just isn't happening; or feeling alone even when surrounded by people. I chose to be a therapist because I know firsthand that change is possible. You see, it was by reaching out for help that I was able to break the patterns that were preventing me from reaching my goals. I decided I wanted to help others the way I was helped. If you're willing to do the work, you can have the life you long for. You only need to believe it's possible. I do.

My Practice & Services

I consider myself to be a warm, approachable person and am very interactive during sessions. I use an eclectic approach to my work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I've had training in a variety of treatment techniques, and I pull from them based on what we're working on. Each person is unique, so what works for one person may not work for another.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Many people believe that going to therapy means you're weak or something is wrong with you. After all, we're always hearing the message, 'You need to pull yourself up by the bootstraps'. If only it were that easy! To the contrary, I believe that making a choice to go to therapy means you're willing to change. That you're willing to deal with uncomfortable feelings and behaviors and face them head-on. To me, that takes great strength.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

Relationships are extremely powerful. Research shows that the single most important factor in the success of therapy is the therapeutic relationship. That's why creating a warm and safe environment in which you feel comfortable, is essential to our working together. Only then will you be able to let your defenses down so we can explore the issues that prevent you from moving forward.
