My Approach to Helping

Besides providing counseling, I have spent the last two decades educating myself through training and research in evidence-proven methods, to be able to provide the most up to date, effective, and educated counseling. I provide this in a warm, relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. I practice trauma informed care, to help you heal without causing more harm. My goal is to make you feel like you are chatting with a dear friend, so you feel safe and accepted. You will choose the goals to work on, and we will regularly check in to see if progress is being made.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

The current medical model of our health care system requires a diagnosis, or "disorder" to get help. I like to think of these disorders as actually being past effective coping skills, because whatever you are doing, you started doing it to keep you safe somehow, and if you are still doing it, it worked at the time. But if you are seeking counseling, those past effective skills are probably now causing you problems. I will honor the skills you found that worked, but also help you to find ones that work for you now.
