My Approach to Therapy

Hello, I'm Sheridan! If you are struggling with anxious thoughts and feelings, sadness that won't let go, big losses, or emotions that feel overwhelming, you are in the right place. I specialize in supporting clients with anxiety and panic, depression, grief, and stressful life circumstances like divorce, parenting struggles, and caregiving challenges. I am also trained as a Women's Mental Health Specialist, which means I have training and experience helping women navigate perinatal mood challenges like postpartum depression and anxiety, as well as stressful diagnoses like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), premenstrual mood challenges, menopause, and others. If you would like more information about me and whether we might be a good fit, please check out my website at www.evergreenintcounsel.com to learn more and schedule a free 15-minute consultation.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

My philosophy of counseling is rooted in an integrated understanding of well-being. I believe every person—regardless of faith background or physical, mental, or emotional capacity—has been created for good purposes. Yet each of us can struggle in any of these areas. Counseling provides me with a unique opportunity to come alongside others, provide support, encouragement, understanding, clarity, and new skills as we walk together toward those good purposes. The counseling relationship is unique in that it provides needed compassion, acceptance, and hope, creating a safe and sacred space where clients can be their true selves, open up, stay present, and begin living with greater intention. As a counselor, I strive to offer a steady, attuned presence—helping clients feel seen, heard, and understood. I believe this relational connection is one of the most important parts of psychotherapy because it provides a felt sense of being supported and valued and provides strength to continue doing the hard work of changing. I also support clients in clarifying what they value most and in taking meaningful steps toward lives shaped by those values. My clinical work draws from evidence-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and somatic practices that help clients reconnect with their bodies and cultivate emotional regulation. Additionally, I work to build a unified view of the client, considering their personal strengths and challenges, their environment, support systems, systems that cause them stress, and the influences of their culture and their faith and spirituality.
