What's My Approach to Therapy?

If you’re living with the aftereffects of trauma, chronic stress, or anxiety, you may feel constantly on guard, numb, or disconnected from yourself and your relationships. I provide trauma-informed online therapy for adults in California and Virginia. I’m an acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)-forward psychologist: we build psychological flexibility—making room for difficult thoughts and feelings while taking values-based action. We go at your pace; you’ll never be pushed to disclose before you’re ready.

My approach blends acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), prolonged exposure (PE), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)-informed skills, mindfulness, and attachment-focused strategies. Together, we map patterns that keep symptoms going, strengthen boundaries, regulate the nervous system, and practice real-life communication skills so change holds outside session. I often support privacy-sensitive clients (federal security-clearance and tech government professionals), veterans, first responders, immigrants and refugees, and LGBTQ+ clients. Care is confidential and self-pay, with superbills available.

My Practice & Services

I offer secure, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-compliant telehealth only—serving adults statewide in California and Virginia. My practice is self-pay to maximize privacy and clinical flexibility; major cards and Zelle are accepted, and I can provide monthly superbills for out-of-network reimbursement (please confirm benefits with your plan). I maintain strict confidentiality practices for people in sensitive roles.

Clinical focus includes posttraumatic stress (PTSD) and complex posttraumatic stress (C-PTSD), attachment-based challenges, anxiety, mood symptoms, grief, and burnout. Treatment is collaborative and paced to readiness, pairing evidence-based therapy with practical skills for regulation, boundaries, and healthier relationships.

Beyond individual therapy, I periodically offer trauma-informed psychoeducation workshops for communities, workplaces, and faith-based or peer groups (virtual; reduced-fee options may be available). I provide a free 15-minute consultation to discuss fit and next steps.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I help adults heal from PTSD and Complex PTSD (C-PTSD), attachment injuries (anxious, avoidant, disorganized), anxiety, codependencyboundary challenges, moral injury, burnout, and relationship trauma. My care is ACT-forward with CBT, CPT, DBT-informed skills, mindfulness, and attachment-focused strategies. Online therapy in California and Virginia; privacy-sensitive clients welcome (security-clearancefederal, veteransfirst responders, techgovernment, immigrantsrefugees, LGBTQ+).

My Therapy Focus

Trauma can narrow life to survival mode. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to build psychological flexibility: noticing difficult thoughts and sensations, making room for emotions, and taking values-based action. We pace the work, emphasize emotional safety and nervous-system regulation, and practice real-life skills (boundaries, communication) so change holds outside session. The tone is collaborative, culturally responsive, and strengths-based--never rushed, never forced.

What I Usually Need to Know to Help

Early sessions cover your goals, strengths, supports, key stressors, trauma history (only as you're ready), medical factors, and what "better" would look like day-to-day. We'll outline session frequency, skills practice between sessions, and how we'll track progress. Expect a mix of psychoeducation, regulation skills, values work, and behavior change, with clear next steps after each session.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

If you're unsure, you're not alone. Many clients worry therapy will be invasive or not practical. With me, you set the pace. We'll start with what matters most now, then build skills that help you sleep, focus, and reconnect with the people and routines you care about. Sessions are structured but human grounded in science and tailored to your culture, history, and values. A free 15-minute consult helps you decide if this is the right fit.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

I'm sorry that happened. Good therapy should feel safe, collaborative, and transparent. With me, there's no pressure to disclose before you're ready. We'll co-create goals, check in on progress, and adjust the plan together. You can give feedback anytime--no defensiveness. If I'm not the right fit, I'll help you find someone who is. Repairing trust is part of the work, and you remain in the driver's seat.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

The relationship is the foundation. You can expect respect, clarity, and choice in every session. I welcome questions and feedback, and I'll be honest about what the research says--and what we still need to learn. If something isn't working, we'll adjust. When the alliance is strong, therapy is safer, faster, and more effective.
