My Approach to Therapy

Welcome to Sonenthal Counseling. I have a Master of Social Work from Walla Walla University (2016) and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over nine years of clinical experience. My practice primarily focuses on couples counseling, helping partners improve communication, navigate recurring conflicts, rebuild trust, and strengthen emotional connections. I also work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, workplace stress, and major life transitions. My therapeutic approach is warm, conversational, collaborative, and practical. I believe meaningful change begins with feeling heard, respected, and understood. I have completed Levels 1, 2, and 3 of Gottman Method Couples Therapy training and incorporate these principles into my work with couples. I also draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused strategies, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care, tailoring treatment to each client's needs and goals. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in information technology, giving me firsthand insight into demanding careers, workplace pressures, and the challenges of balancing professional and personal relationships. I strive to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment where couples and individuals can explore challenges, gain new perspectives, and develop practical skills for lasting change. I offer in-person counseling in Seattle and telehealth services throughout Washington, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia. I also offer a complimentary 20-minute consultation to discuss your goals, answer questions, and explore whether working together would be a good fit.
