Robyn Brickel has been a therapist in Old Town Alexandria since 1999. Robyn's expertise is in demand. Robyn is a Connecticut native, and has offered counseling at a variety of treatment facilities, including an intensive outpatient substance abuse program in her home state. She also worked in private practice, and directed a one-on-one mentoring program for youth at risk. She graduated from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut, with a master's degree in marriage and family therapy.
Robyn is licensed in Virginia as a marriage and family therapist (LMFT), and treats families, couples, individuals, and groups, including both adolescents and adults. She believes in the value of continuing education, and routinely seeks out continued professional training to remain abreast of new developments in her field. She has post-graduate training in ego state psychotherapy, internal family systems, sensorimotor psychotherapy, Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT), the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT) and Imago relational therapy, as well as training with maternal mental health issues, including infertility and postpartum depression. She also completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), in addition to completing a certificate program in advanced trauma treatment.

-Training from the Center for Healing and Imagery in ego state psychotherapy
-An advanced trauma treatment certification from the Advanced Institute of Psychotherapy Training, Inc.
-Training in sensorimotor approaches to trauma
-Level I and II certifications in EMDR
-Training in many trauma-informed therapy models, including the treatment of substance abuse/alcohol and process addictions, dissociation, and other effects of trauma
