My Approach to Therapy

If you're reading this, something has probably gotten bad enough that you're finally looking for help. Maybe your anger has been costing you, in your relationships, your career, or your own sense of who you are. Maybe anxiety is grinding you down, stealing your sleep, or making you avoid things you care about. Maybe you've tried to handle it alone for a long time. Most of my clients have. I'm Dr. Bob, a Psychologist specializing in anger and anxiety in therapy, and I'll be honest with you from the start: I'm not the kind of therapist who sits quietly and nods. We'll have real conversations. I'll listen carefully, take you seriously, and give you direct, honest feedback. I'll challenge you when it's useful, because that's how real change happens. Most of what we do together will be practical. You'll leave sessions with concrete tools you can actually use before we meet again, things that work in the real moments when anger flares or anxiety takes over. If you're curious about going deeper, we can also explore the patterns and old beliefs that have been quietly driving your reactions for years. That kind of insight tends to make everything else stick. My goal is simple: that you end our work together feeling more in control, calmer, and genuinely better in the areas of life that matter most to you. Anger and anxiety are very treatable. You don't have to keep white-knuckling it alone.

My Practice & Services

I work with adults who are tired of letting anger or anxiety run their lives, and who are ready to actually do something about it. Many of my clients are men, and many have never tried therapy before. I specialize in working with both, and I know how to ease you in without it feeling overwhelming or unfamiliar. My approach is practical first. You'll leave most sessions with something concrete you can use right away. I tailor everything to you specifically: your goals, your personality, and what you're actually dealing with. If you're curious about going deeper and understanding the roots of your patterns, that door is always open, too. With nearly 20 years of specialized experience in anger and anxiety, advanced certifications, and a background in real-world business and HR, I bring a depth and directness that my clients tell me feels different from therapy they've tried before.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Psychotherapy works because it gives you something you can't easily get anywhere else: a skilled, objective person entirely focused on you ? not judging you, but helping you build on your strengths and find your way forward in life. In practical terms, here's what good therapy can help you do: Learn how your nervous system works ? and how to manage it so you feel less stressed, agitated, and anxious, and can make better choices in the moments that matter most. Learn how your own mind works ? and find ways to be more at ease with your thoughts and feelings, rather than overwhelmed by them or in constant struggle with them. Identify and change the unhelpful patterns of reacting to certain people and situations that make your life harder than it needs to be. Get clearer on what you really want ? and learn to work toward those goals in more productive, less problematic ways. Build coping skills and learn to take better care of yourself, mentally and physically. Show up as the best version of yourself in your relationships. And feel more comfortable and confident in your own skin. Most of my clients are surprised by two things: how quickly they start to feel better, and how much they wish they'd started sooner.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

If you're on the fence about therapy ? or convinced it's just not for you ? I hear that a lot. Most of my clients felt exactly the same way before we started working together. Here's what I usually tell them. First: being here doesn't mean something is wrong with you. It means something isn't working the way you want it to, and you've decided to do something about it. That's not weakness ? that's exactly the kind of problem-solving instinct that probably serves you well in every other area of your life. Second: therapy with me isn't what you might be picturing. We're not going to spend sessions with me silently nodding while you free-associate. We'll have real conversations. I'll be direct with you, give you honest feedback, and most importantly ? you'll leave most sessions with something concrete you can actually use before we meet again. No homework that feels pointless. No jargon. No couch. Third: you're in control of this process. We go at your pace. If you want to stay focused on practical tools and skill-building, we do that. If you're curious about going deeper at some point, that door is open. Nothing is forced. The hardest part for most people is making the first call. Everything after that is usually much easier than they expected.
