My Approach to Therapy

We approach the counseling process from a collaborative perspective. We believe a strong therapeutic relationship with you creates a space for deep self-reflection, awareness, and growth. Through humor, metaphors, and experiential activities, we help you develop the ability to engage in the present moment so you can decide whether a behavior is consistent with your values. Through acceptance and mindfulness practices, we identify "how" you think about experiences to help create flexibility in moving toward personal growth and development. Our approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help you effectively address personal life challenges. We integrate complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a personalized approach. With compassion and understanding, we work with each individual to build on their values and strengths to attain personal growth.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Through school, work, and personal experience, I have learned the ability to voice your life experiences with another person takes courage and bravery. Going to therapy is an action step that is a result of someone deciding something needs to change. Often people stay stuck in a feeling, belief, or story that limits their ability to pursue the life they want to live. I am often inspired and impressed with the resiliency people show each day they decide to create a better self.

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

Trust. Acceptance. Belonging. Connection. These are the values I believe build the foundation to the Client-Therapist Alliance. The counseling process asks one to share intimate, vulnerable stories about their life. When entering into a counseling relationship, appropriate and professional boundaries combined with the above values begins to create a safe space for support. With shared values and clear intentions, one begins to explore their pain knowing the therapist is there to hear and acknowledge their experience.
