My Approach to Helping
I see therapy as a partnership — a partnership that can offer an opportunity to find clarity, to better understand overwhelming experiences, as well as to grow from difficult times. Entering this process with your particular issues and uniqueness, together we work to better understand and enable you to make positive changes in your life. I offer a space for internal reflection, a place to heal wounds and a place to learn to feel and be whole. I provide guidance and a nonjudgmental presence to help you learn to give recognition, make meaning of and navigate your internal and external experiences. Together, we’ll work to apply your developing sense of yourself to relieve distressing symptoms and overcome obstacles that get in the way of a more satisfying and enjoyable life.
I bring extensive experience helping people work through anxiety disorders, relationship difficulties, addiction, trauma, depression, transitions, loss, betrayal, childhood emotional neglect, issues around sexuality, ACOA and other family concerns. I also provide 12-Step support. I work at a level of depth but am also practical and down to earth. My approach is interactive, and is based on your personal history and needs. My personal style is engaged and open, offering feedback and observations with a compassionate blend of support and challenge. In addition to talking, when appropriate I offer guidance with adjunct methodologies including mindfulness, guided imagery, breathwork, somatic and sensory awareness.
Many people find that although they came in to work on a particular problem, not only is that better, but they also experience many positive changes that they never could have anticipated. I specialize in helping people who have cultivated their intellect and creativity and would now like to develop their emotional and relational worlds.
