My Approach to Helping
When the therapy relationship is one in which you feel safe enough to share your struggles and express difficult emotions you can begin to take risks toward change. I hope to help you feel safe, supported and understood while also challenging you to access and develop your strengths and potential for a fuller, more meaningful life. Together, we work to find clarity, authenticity and a better understanding of yourself, your relationships and your life experiences. I help you explore and work through the themes and patterns in your life that cause you concern as well as addressing and easing difficult, confusing or secret feelings and behaviors.
In addition to bringing over 25 years of experience, my way of working takes all of who you are into consideration -- your mind, body, spirit, family, community and culture. My style is warm, open and engaged. My approach is active, interactive, responsive, curious, and respectful; offering feedback with a compassionate blend of support and challenge. I work at a level of depth but I am also practical and down to earth, integrating inquiry, conversation and mind-body techniques. I communicate in direct and authentic ways with thoughtfulness and care.
I work with clients with a wide range of issues. I have extensive experience helping people work through trauma, relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, childhood emotional neglect, life transitions, issues around sexuality, addiction, law - medical -graduate school stress, ACOA and other family concerns. I specialize in helping people who have cultivated their intellect and creativity and who would now like to develop their emotional and relational worlds. Many people find that although they come in to work on a particular problem, not only is that better, but they also experience many positive changes that they never could have anticipated.
