My Approach to Therapy

As a mental health therapist offering in-person , I use a relational, depth-oriented approach that helps my clients find lasting relief from distress by improving self-understanding and building their ability to tolerate difficult emotions. I begin by establishing clear goals with my clients to address their immediate concerns. Then I work with them to help them see how those concerns relate to unconscious patterns in their lives. I tend to see my clients concerns as unique and stemming from their particular backgrounds and experiences. For this reason, my focus is on working with you to create the treatment you need rather than applying cookie-cutter approaches to your situation. At the end of the day, so much of what makes therapy effective is the goodness of fit between client and therapist. If youre looking to find a therapist, I hope youll reach out to schedule a therapy appointment and see if we might be a good fit to work together. If were not the right fit for whatever reason, Id be glad to talk with you and help you find another provider who is.

My Practice & Services

Im glad to offer services from my convenient office location near downtown Pasadena, California, or from the comfort of your own home via teletherapy. If youre interested, you can find additional information about my training background, how I work and my areas of expertise on my personal website.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

My expertise in working with clients who wish to include faith and spirituality in treatment stems from both my clinical experience and my work as an supervisor, professor, and academic researcher. I've published a series of academic articles focused on including faith and spirituality in therapy in ways that are culturally and interpersonally responsible, including publications in the disciplines of psychology, philosophy, and theology. I work part-time as a professor and clinical supervisor in an APA-accredited graduate psychology program, where I provide specialized training in the inclusion of faith and spirituality in treatment to clinical psychology students.
