My Approach to Therapy
You may be feeling overwhelmed by emotions that seem impossible to control, stuck in patterns you understand but cannot seem to change, or exhausted from carrying experiences that continue to affect your relationships, confidence, and everyday life. You may know that something needs to change, but you are not quite sure how to get there. You do not have to figure it out alone.
At Trickett Psychotherapy, my team and I provide psychotherapy in Guelph and online across Ontario for adults and couples seeking meaningful, lasting change. We work extensively with anxiety, trauma, posttraumatic stress (PTSD) and complex posttraumatic stress (CPTSD), borderline personality (BPD), depression, emotional dysregulation, relationship difficulties, attachment concerns, grief, stress, burnout, and major life transitions.
When you work with us, therapy is not about fitting you into a predetermined formula. We begin by understanding you, your experiences, relationships, patterns, strengths, and what you want your life to look like. From there, we develop an individualized approach that may draw from dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), somatic experiencing, emotionally focused therapy (EFT), mindfulness, and trauma-informed psychotherapy.
Our work can involve understanding where difficult patterns began while also developing practical skills you can use now. For some people, that means learning to regulate intense emotions or manage anxiety. For others, it means processing trauma, developing healthier boundaries, changing relationship patterns, rebuilding trust, or developing a stronger and more stable sense of self.
Most importantly, I believe therapy should be a relationship in which you can speak openly, feel understood without judgment, and be supported in making meaningful changes. My role, and the role of our therapists, is not to tell you who you should become. It is to help you better understand yourself, recognize what is keeping you stuck, develop the tools you need, and move toward the life and relationships you want.
If you are looking for a psychotherapist in Guelph or prefer online psychotherapy anywhere in Ontario, I invite you to contact Trickett Psychotherapy. Book a consultation, and let’s talk about what you are experiencing, what you would like to change, and how we may be able to help.
