What's My Approach to Therapy?

Mariah Severud believes that therapy is for everyone. She is passionate about growth and resilience through the therapeutic relationship. Mariah understands that life throws curveballs at the most unexpected and unwanted times, despite our best-laid plans. She knows that a supportive place to process, heal, and grow can make all the difference between getting back up again and a TKO. Mariah is confident that anyone can start on a new path full of joy, love, success, and meaning. Each of us has the potential to live the life we want, embrace change like an old friend, and find the courage and strength to keep on keeping on. We are all on our own journey, and every hero needs guidance like Luke needed Yoda, and Frodo Baggins needed the Fellowship. We are unique people who need community and family, and Mariah is ready to help you find it.

At Foundations Counseling, Mariah Severud works with a wide variety of clients who may be seeking services that include:

Mariah Severud has a Master of Arts degree in clinical psychology from the University of Minnesota, Mankato, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and English language and rhetoric from the University of Kansas. She has more than three years of experience working with adolescents and young adults in individual crisis counseling, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. Mariah also has extensive experience running skills-based group therapy, short-term crisis management, and individual therapy with clients ages 10 and up. She utilizes techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), person-centered therapy, and trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy.

Mariah has been motivating others to reach their goals by leading fitness classes for nine years. She has a fascination with change and the idea that anyone can change their life at any time. We have the amazing power of choice, and Mariah is passionate about helping others find their path by making choices congruent with their values, beliefs, and goals.
