My Approach to Therapy

Are you beginning to think you have a problem with alcohol or other drugs? Are your friends and family members concerned? Have you experienced painful consequences due to drinking or drug use? You may be confused wondering which step to take next. Many people manage painful feelings by using drugs and alcohol; thinking about stopping can feel overwhelming. Others want to consider harm reduction before sobriety. Maybe you're in-recovery already and seeking a therapist knowledgeable about addictions. I'm a substance abuse specialist, as well as a licensed Marriage Family Therapist. I've worked with people struggling with alcohol and drug use and their friends and family members for over twenty-five years. It's painful to struggle with an addiction. It can cause isolation from loved ones, depression and anxiety. You need support to explore your thoughts and feelings in order to make informed decisions. I provide a safe, compassionate, non-judgemental space to help you explore what works best for you. I work interactively and collaboratively, I take into consideration the past as it effects the present. I tailor my work to your needs, together we'll explore your life at your pace. I believe each person has the capacity for growth and healing and I have respect and compassion for all the difficult places we find ourselves in.

My Practice & Services

If you would like to speak with me or set an appointment, call me. I take Anthem Blue Cross and Aetna insurance My fee is $180 a session and I work with a sliding scale.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have extensive experience working with people who come from homes where there was substance abuse and neglect. I specialize in seeing teens and young adults who are leaving home or about to leave home for the first time. With many of my clients but particularly with young people, I work with issues of anxiety and depression. Many of my clients are members of the LGBTQ community and I often work with these clients on issues of coming out, internalized homophobia and sexual identity.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

I strongly suggest that people shop around and visit at least three therapists before making a final decision. In therapy you will be talking about experiences, problems and issues that have the potential to bring up strong feelings of vulnerability and even shame. You need someone who is a good listener and gives you the time and space you need. You deserve someone who is empathic, experienced and non-judgmental.
