What's My Approach to Therapy?

Liz Rand firmly believes that healing and growing are both processes best engaged with curiosity, connection, and compassion. She sees counseling as a collaborative endeavor, rooted in each client’s unique experience and strengths, and she strives to create a safe and authentic space for such collaboration and exploration to unfold. Liz is well-practiced in walking through difficult seasons with compassionate presence and deep-rooted hope, both personally and professionally.

Liz is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Arts Degree in Community Counseling from Denver Seminary and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Clemson University. She draws on perspectives and techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), existential therapy, play therapy, and experiential education to meet each person where they are located at any given moment.

Liz brings a broad range of experience into her counseling, having worked in an office-based setting as an outpatient counselor, as well as in various contexts where life happens, such as school, home, and community settings. Before entering the mental health field, Liz worked in outdoor recreation roles – this experience shines through as she considers the therapy process from an experiential lens. She is passionate about walking with people through all seasons of life, whether difficult, joyful, or mundane, and looking together for the little steps that can help move someone toward thriving.

• Adults- Individual counseling regarding anxiety, depression, ADDADHD, self-esteem and self-worth issues, parenting, life-coaching and goal-setting, communication issues, self-care

• Children, Adolescents, and Teens– Individual or family counseling regarding anxiety, depression, ADDADHD, school and family issues, parenting challenges, general parenting, creative therapies incorporating movement and play, parent-child interactions, communication issues, child and adolescent development, self-care.

• Life Transitions– life coaching, life stages, job transition, new parents, establishing self, chronic health conditions.

When she’s not at Foundations Counseling, you can usually find Liz exploring in some manner, most often with her family. She’s an endlessly curious lifelong learner and looks for those opportunities practically everywhere. She especially enjoys hiking, camping, reading, and cultivating creativity with whatever is on hand (especially improv quilting). In the warmer months, Liz is most likely on or in a lake.

Groups I Work With

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals across various age groups, but I find myself especially drawn to children between the ages of 8 and 12. This stage of life often marks a turning point—a time when self-awareness begins to bloom, and young individuals start to experience the weight of social expectations and internal changes. These years can be both beautiful and bewildering. My goal is to meet clients exactly where they are, without judgment, and help them understand not only what they’re feeling but why. Together, we explore the path to the present, guided by compassion and curiosity.
