What's My Approach to Therapy?

I'm Lauren Olshtein, and I'm passionate about helping others as they navigate their mental health goals. I believe that therapy is a collaborative journey where we work together to help you create meaningful change and build the life you want to live.

I earned my B.A.S. in psychology from Northwestern University in Chicago, where I was also an All-American soccer player. This experience taught me invaluable lessons about discipline, resilience, perseverance, and the mental strength required to pursue excellence—lessons I bring into my therapeutic work. I'm currently completing my doctorate degree in clinical mental health counseling at Western States University, combining rigorous academic training with practical clinical experience.

My approach integrates person-centered therapy, solution-focused interventions, and psychodynamic techniques to provide comprehensive, tailored care. I believe in honoring your unique experience and perspective (person-centered), helping you identify and achieve specific goals (solution-focused), and exploring deeper patterns that may be influencing your current challenges (psychodynamic). This combination allows us to address both immediate concerns and underlying issues for lasting change.

While I have specialized training in sports psychology and understand the unique mental challenges that athletes face, my expertise extends far beyond sports. I work with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive (OCD), relationship challenges, grief, and major life transitions. Whether you're dealing with overwhelming thoughts, difficulty concentrating, feeling disconnected from loved ones, or simply trying to navigate a difficult season of life, I'm here to provide support.

I'm committed to creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can be authentically yourself. I understand that seeking therapy takes courage, and I'm honored to walk alongside you as you work toward your therapeutic goals. My approach is warm, collaborative, and focused on helping you build on your existing strengths while developing new skills and insights.

Groups I Work With

I work with adolescents, adults, and couples facing a wide range of mental health challenges and life circumstances. My training and experience allow me to adapt my approach to meet the unique needs of each population I serve.

With adolescents, I help young people navigate identity development, peer relationships, academic pressures, family dynamics, anxiety, depression, and the challenging transitions that come with growing up. I understand the unique pressures that young people face today, and I create a supportive environment where they can explore who they are and who they want to become.

I work extensively with adults struggling with anxiety conditions, depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive (OCD), and other mental health conditions. Whether you're dealing with overwhelming worry, persistent sadness, difficulty concentrating, intrusive thoughts, or a combination of challenges, I provide evidence-based support tailored to your specific needs.

I also support individuals navigating major life transitions—whether you're changing careers, ending or beginning relationships, becoming a parent, dealing with loss, or simply feeling stuck and uncertain about your path forward. Transitions can be overwhelming, and having support during these times can make all the difference.

For couples, I help partners improve communication, resolve conflicts, rebuild trust, and strengthen their emotional connection. Whether you're feeling disconnected from your partner or facing specific relationship challenges, I provide a safe space to explore these issues together.

I have specialized training in sports psychology and understand the unique mental health needs of athletes at all levels. While I work with competitive athletes dealing with performance anxiety, injury recovery, burnout, and identity issues related to sports, this expertise also translates to working with high-achievers in any field who struggle with perfectionism, pressure, and performance-related stress.

I'm passionate about supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, and am committed to providing affirming, inclusive care for all clients, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or background. I also work with individuals dealing with parenting stress, family conflicts, grief and loss, and stress management needs.

My background as a former elite athlete gives me unique insight into the mind-body connection, the power of resilience, and what it takes to overcome obstacles—insights that benefit all my clients, whether or not they're involved in sports. I understand what it means to push through adversity, and I bring that understanding to help you navigate your own challenges with strength and compassion.
