What's My Approach to Therapy?

Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or weighed down by anxiety or depression? Life transitions—such as parenting challenges, relationship struggles, health concerns, or the loss of a loved one—can make even the strongest people feel uncertain and exhausted. You don’t have to navigate these experiences alone. I provide a calm, supportive space where we can work together to help you feel more grounded, confident, and able to move forward. I’m Laura Stevenson, an independently licensed social worker with more than 30 years of experience helping individuals navigate life’s emotional challenges. I often work with people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, and self-doubt, particularly during periods of change or transition. My approach is practical, compassionate, and focused on helping you develop skills that make everyday life feel more manageable. In therapy, I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based approaches to help clients better understand their thoughts, manage emotions, and build healthier coping strategies. Together, we focus on identifying patterns, developing new tools, and creating meaningful progress toward your personal goals. I work as part of an integrated healthcare team at Lorain County Health and Dentistry, which allows us to support the whole person. When helpful, clients can access additional services such as psychiatric medication management or medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for addiction as part of coordinated care. I offer both in-person and virtual appointments to make care more accessible. Our health center accepts many major insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, and also offers a sliding fee scale so that cost is not a barrier to receiving support. If you’re ready to start making changes or simply want a supportive place to talk, I would be honored to work with you.
