My Approach to Therapy

Do you feel stuck in a negative cycle of depression and anxiety, loneliness, or self-defeating behaviors? Do you long for connection and trust but keep having relationship problems? Do you desire a more meaningful, productive, and creative life? When you feel at peace with and are connected to yourself and those around you, the world is a wonderful place. When you are unhappy and lonely, life becomes trying, and it is difficult to feel motivated and execute even minor tasks. We are living in stressful times, which makes it all the more important to be mentally strong and maintain a hopeful perspective. Therapy can help with this. It offers a safe and confidential space for reflection and personal growth. If you struggle with any of the issues mentioned above, I am here to help you. I bring many years of training and clinical experience to my work, in addition to a rich life experience. I have lived and worked in different countries and am familiar with the transcultural and immigrant experience. I also have a background in fashion, writing, and acting, all of which have given me a nuanced view of human nature and enabled me to connect with clients from diverse walks of life. In our work together, we will explore the dynamics that have led to your current situation and find ways forward towards a healthier, grounded, and confident you. I approach my clients with respect and curiosity, basically counting on the deep knowledge that is already within you. I firmly believe in the power of psychotherapy to help improve lives and look forward to working with you.

My Practice & Services

In my practice, I specialize in psychodynamic therapy with a focus on gaining insight into the interpersonal dynamics of feelings and behavior patterns, which are often related to experiences of early trauma and loss. I work with women and men of all orientations, as well as couples. I also enjoy working with international clients and those from creative fields. My orientation is psychodynamic, though I use cognitive behavioral techniques as needed, as well as elements of an existential approach to psychotherapy. My identity as a therapist is shaped by my own rich life experiences. I am a European with a previous career in fashion and acting who has lived in several different countries before coming to New York. I studied acting and writing, and have had exposure to the art world. All this has given me an open-mindedness and understanding of the role of class, race, and gender in people's lives that cannot be taught in universities. I truly enjoy working with diverse people and discovering the richness of each person's life story. - I have had professional experience working in various hospital settings, including with couples at a sexuality clinic, as well as with young adults in university counseling centers.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I love my profession because each person I meet is different and has their very own rich and complex story. Each day I keep learning about the power of humans to defy difficult life circumstances and overcome obstacles. I consider this a great privilege.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

Disorders occur on a spectrum. In some sense one could say that we are all disordered. While some clearly struggle more than others we are all subject to stress and emotional pain at different times of our lives. It is how we deal with these experiences that sets us up for either integration and growth, or on-going struggle and despair. I believe that it is often our most difficult moments which teach us the most. If we honor our experiences and learn from them we realize that they not only make us who we are but also give direction and meaning to our lives. Therapy offers a rewarding path towards this goal.
