My Approach to Helping
A simple way to understand psychotherapy is to make sense together. Thus, my practice of psychotherapy is collaborative, focusing on developing and maintaining a therapeutic relationship with my clients (you).
My therapeutic approach is influenced by integrative psychodynamic psychotherapy, and different techniques are interweaved based on the session and the client. Having thorough academic training, my practice is emotionally, cognitively, biologically, and psychologically informed. Additionally, it is also guided by my interest in human development and my research on the inner child. Through therapy, the goal is to recognize and understand the patterns of thoughts or behavior, not to alter them, but just being conscious of them would aid one’s understanding of self.
Our time in therapy sessions would be your time. I believe nobody can understand your life and experiences better than you. Therefore, I aim to listen, reflect, and facilitate empathy, support, and integration; together, we can find a different or new perspective on your experiences and thoughts. My goal is to empower you to gain awareness and control over your responses and to uncover your resilience.
How Psychotherapy Can Help
One way we deal with painful and uncomfortable thoughts is by putting them in the back of our minds, i.e., they get pushed into the unconscious mind, and they convert into thoughts that usually generate fear, shame, guilt, etc. Even though they are out of consciousness, they affect how you think, feel, and behave.
So, through the therapeutic alliance between client and therapist, it delves into unconscious patterns and unresolved conflicts, illuminating the roots of distress. By unraveling past experiences and relational dynamics, it provides insight into present behavior and emotions, empowering individuals to make conscious choices and enact meaningful change. This approach facilitates profound personal growth, fostering resilience and a deeper connection with oneself and others.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
The duration of your therapy journey is entirely within your control, shaped by your own objectives and therapeutic goals. Some individuals opt for short-term therapy to address specific challenges or transitions in their lives or relationships. Conversely, for others, psychotherapy serves as an opportunity for personal growth and heightened self-awareness, extending over a more extended period.
Typically, clients come in sessions on a weekly or biweekly basis. The frequency of sessions remains flexible, but consistency is essential for therapeutic growth.
