My Approach to Therapy

Hi there, my name is Kelly, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) dedicated to walking alongside people as they find their way back to themselves. My work is grounded in my psychodynamic training, which is relational, warm, and collaborative. I hold the belief that we are much more than the sum of our struggles. I believe that we are all working toward a sense of wholeness where qualities like authenticity, compassion, purpose, and vitality reside. I work with my clients in the areas where they feel stuck in old patterns and beliefs that no longer work for them. I believe that everyone has the capacity to heal, and that it looks unique for each person. I share various strategies and tools to support self-reflection, self-awareness, increased self-compassion, and acceptance. Where you feel broken or hurt, I will help you create a more loving and empowering sense of yourself that is unique to you and your life experiences. My approach is relational, collaborative, and honoring of your unique journey. I bring over 15 years of experience from my work with transplant patients, adolescents and children, and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, codependency, and trauma.

My Practice & Services

I am currently seeing my clients through telehealth, and will update here when I open up in-person options.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

So many people are nervous or unsure about how therapy can help them. I find that the 'magic' of therapy is less about the specific interventions that I can offer you, and more about the relationship between us. My job is to listen deeply, to understand you, to help you make connections between who you are now and the family and life experiences that shaped you. When I talk about the relationship between us, what I mean is that I believe therapy works best when a client feels safe in session to explore anything that is coming up, to feel safe to be unfiltered and to reflect with curiosity at one's own process. I'm there with you, co-creating, reflecting, and being curious. We often come up with metaphors to understand a dynamic or a block or a pattern that you've identified. We find humor together. We wonder about the deeper meaning underneath life's challenges, what lessons might be there for us. I tell my new clients that I take an "easy come, easy go" approach to therapy. Let's try out a few sessions, see if it feels like a good fit, and if it doesn't, I don't take it personally. I have a great network of therapists who I refer to, and I'd be happy to connect you with the right person. Many of my clients take breaks when they're feeling good, and they reach out to me when they need support. There are not many opportunities for people to sit for an hour and self-reflect and process emotions with another person who is there solely to hold space for them. I say, give therapy a try and note how it makes you feel. Be open to this very unique and specific kind of relationship with your therapist. And if your therapist isn't right for you, don't give up! It may take some time, but I know you'll find the right person to work with.
