My Approach to Therapy

You've likely tried to understand what's getting in your way. Maybe it's a pattern you keep returning to, a relationship that isn't working the way you'd like, or a low-level unease you can't quite name. And yet, insight alone hasn't been enough to create the change you're looking for. That gap is exactly where therapy becomes meaningful. I'm Kelly, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and psychotherapist. I work with adult individuals and couples who are self-aware and motivated, yet find that understanding alone hasn't been enough to create the changes they're looking for. My approach is integrative and mindfulness-informed, drawing from psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive-behavioral frameworks. What ties them together is mindfulness, not as a technique, but as a foundational orientation. Rather than trying to eliminate difficult thoughts or emotions, you learn to observe them differently. That shift in your relationship to your inner experience is where lasting change begins. This work is collaborative, attuned, and grounded. I bring both structure and genuine presence to each session, and I work at a pace that honors where you are. If any of this resonates, I'd welcome the chance to connect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer virtual sessions? Yes. All sessions are conducted virtually, which allows me to work with clients throughout New York, New Jersey, and Florida. What happens in the first session? The first session is a longer intake assessment. We'll talk through what brought you to therapy, your history, and what you're hoping will be different. It's also a chance for you to get a feel for how I work and ask any questions you have. How often do sessions typically occur? Most clients meet weekly, especially early on. Frequency can shift over time depending on what's most useful for you. How long does therapy usually last? This varies. Some clients come with a specific concern and finish in a few months. Others stay longer, using therapy as an ongoing space for reflection and growth. We'll talk openly about this as we go. How can I know if you're the right fit? If you're self-aware, motivated, and have found that understanding your patterns hasn't been enough to change them, this work tends to resonate. A free consultation is the best way to find out.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Most people come to therapy wanting relief — from anxiety, from conflict, from a version of themselves they're tired of being. That's a reasonable place to start. But in my view, the deeper purpose of therapy is not to eliminate discomfort. It's to change your relationship with it. When you learn to observe your thoughts and emotions with greater awareness and less reactivity, something shifts. You stop being at the mercy of every difficult feeling or self-critical thought, and you begin to respond to your life with more intention. That shift doesn't just address the presenting concern. It changes how you move through life. This is why mindfulness sits at the center of my work. Not as a relaxation technique, but as a fundamental reorientation toward your own inner experience. The goal is not a life without difficulty. It's a life where you can meet whatever comes your way with presence, clarity, and resilience.
