Often we feel that happiness is just out of reach, that we need to perfect something, someone, or ourselves to become happy. In a safe intimate therapeutic setting, where confidentiality is required, you can slowly examine the issues which challenge you. Core beliefs about the self, how you relate to others, can change. When you reflect on patterns of relationships, you may find they begin to make sense. Taking agency over your own reactions, whether anger, sadness, or self-blame, and learning how to soothe yourself can take the place of the constant quest for external perfection.
I believe that children are deeply loyal to their parents and that, in therapy, we can discover how your childhood loyalties may be sabotaging your ability for feel both happy and at peace.
