My Approach to Helping

Each day, everyone is doing the best they can. Yet sometimes the usual ways no longer work or begin to cause more problems than they help solve. Frustration, a sense of helplessness, or even hopelessness can set in when things do not seem to improve. Fortunately, each of us has the option and freedom to change our experience - whether it be how we feel, the way we think, or what we do - even when nothing (or no one) around us changes.

There are many different ways of "doing therapy" and no one approach necessarily fits all clients. My hope is to provide the most appropriate and useful services to you. To do so I opt for using those approaches that have been shown, through research, to be effective. I most commonly offer EMDR, CBT, PCIT, and TF-CBT therapies.

My greatest interest is being of service to you and I would be glad to answer any questions you may have at this time. I understand that selecting a professional like myself can be confusing, challenging, and at times overwhelming. The most important thing is that you obtain the support and services that you need. Please reach out to see if I can help.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

The benefits of psychotherapy can be many and depend on your specific needs. For example, when faced with a situation that you do not know how to handle or improve, psychotherapy may provide you with specific skills to help you better manage the situation your are facing. Other times a new perspective can help clarify your struggle and open the door to other options not previously considered. Many times however it is not necessary for your psychotherapist to "teach" you anything because you may already possess the skills and knowledge necessary to help yourself. It is at this point that psychotherapy may serve you best by helping you identify and remove any barriers between you and your goals; perhaps it's regaining a sense of hope, motivation, or learning to listen to and trust that inner wisdom- the little voice that knows what is best but also one that over time may have been been silenced or ignored.

My Therapy Focus

It can be easy and natural for us to place responsibility for our suffering or discontent on the things outside of us (that is, people who let us down or an unfortunate event). Yet, over time, we find that waiting for people or things to change can mean prolonging our suffering for an indefinite period of time. Through therapy I assist you in redirecting your energy to identify the things you can change and then taking the steps to change them, if that is what you decide to do.
